Z4 Hood Won't Open

Can anyone provide guidance on how to open the hood of a Z4? I went to replace the wiper relay because my wipers are acting up and the lever refuses to open the hood. I have heard a long screwdriver or pliers work but need some opinions. Please help...

Please don't attack it with a screwdriver! I've never had to do this, but I've heard that if you have someone gently press down on the hood while you pull the lever it will release. The problem is that the mechanism needs some lubrication, so do that while you're in there fixing your wipers

I've also heard that if you can find a good looking woman to gently rest her behind on the hood while you pull the release that this will work also.

I don't know about the hood but that sure would work for me... hahaha

WD-40 the latches that should keep it working well once you get back in it. (Assuming the wire did not break) If the wire is broken check the boards since a while ago I saw a how to DIY on changing it out, but did not look like a fun project.

This happened to a friend of mine.

I held the hood release lever while he tapped the top of the hood right where the latch mechanism (dead center of the hood near roundel emblem) and it opened.

This is the solution, especially if you had been tinkering with the hood height position adjusters


Try it, just don't bang to hard on the hood, but you will need two people, one to hold the lever inside, and you to gently, but firmly tap the hood.
