Post Cooling system issue - Temperature guage intermittantly approaches red zone

Recently changed the water pump, coolant resrvoir and reservoir cap in a 2001 X5 4.4. After driving for approx. 20 minutes the temperature guage moves to the red zone for a few minutes before returning to the center or near the center. nThe coolant level remains unchanged and show no signs of leaking. The mechanic confirmed that the thermostat is fine and that the radiator does not need to flushing. Uncomfortable driving for fear of damaging engine from overheating. Has anyone experienced this problem of knows what's causing it?.

Did you bleed the air out of the system after refilling?

Not sure. But I do recall the Mechanic unscrewing the screw on the top of the coolant reservoir. Will confirm with him again. Is this something tht I can do myself?

Thanks for your response.
