Is the "Voice-Command" feature standard?

I'm seperating this question from a previous post to be more to the point.

I opted not to get the Navigation system with my 2010 X5. It is in production now. I inquired from the sales rep if I would still have voice-command functionality with the iDrive system if I didn't get Navigation and I was told no.

Is this true? Any X5 owners out there that didn't opt for navigation, but do have voice-command?

I know that there is a button on the steering wheel to activate voice-command. It is hard to imaging that they would install a different steering wheel if I didn't choose navigation.

Any help on this?

You don't get voice command. You need the technology package for that.

The voice command button on the steering wheel is also used to activate the blue tooth phone connection, which you get with BMW Assist or the premium package, and you can voice dial through the car (pretty much the only "voice command" you get without the technology package).

What he said.

BMW assumes that anyone who doesn't order the Technology Package is a Luddite who can't be trusted to activate ANY of the main iDrive functions via voice command. Yes not even changing the audio source from Radio to CD or displaying Car Data, etc..

What's worse, the X5 manual is almost useless in telling you what limited voice commands are available without the technology package. Here's a hint - don't even expect all the "Short Commands" listed for Communications to actually work.
