Has anyone installed coilovers?

To improve ride/handling?

Hesitant to buy a pre-2007 because of the supposed stiff ride. This will be my daily driver - after all.

But the low prices of a 2006 could justify spending a few grand on some KW coilovers or something of the like.

I've riden in a lot of cars where good coilovers not only produced better handling, but a better ride than stock. All depends on how aggressive the coilovers are, and how they are set up if they are adjustable.

Thoughts?

I wish you could find something that would make the X3 ride better! I am afraid that just coil over shocks would not do much except excerbate an already stiff ride. Probably the springs would have to go as well. Too expensive for me, I'll just get a Q5 later.

I have an '06 with the sport package and don't find the ride too harsh at all. Be sure to drive one and decied for yourself. Others will share their opinions freely but yours is the only one that matters.

I also would be interested in hearing about coilover installations in an X3. I have the sport package, with supposedly different springs and lower stance. The ride is firm and somewhat harsh over sharp bumps. The car also leans much more than I like in hard turns. The issue with coilovers and lowering is lack of adjustability in the suspension. Are suitable coilovers and adjustable control arms available? Apparently, KW makes coilovers to fit the X3, but what about the rest? Negative camber will kill tire wear. The X3 is not a track car.
