Which fan are you referring to - the electric fan at the front of the engine?

I want to apologize for this lengthy reply before I even begin. Somewhere in between these lines, my willingness to help and that I care (which is why I am surprised to see terrorists coming at me with sniper tactics and the wrong gun so I spit back). This is what Bimmerfest was about, it amazes me how things change in a glimpse. Same goes to the place where I do what I do best. It seems that nobody cares anymore, unless they are getting paid. I can no longer look the other way because it happens there too. And I can't be blind, to do what I love most.

Turn off the vehicle and remove the key from the ignition. Remember where you put it to avoid using profanity when it is not necessary and there is no one else around to put the blame.

Disconnect the battery (inside the trunk on the right rear side) by detaching the negative terminal.

Cover (cloth or masking tape, use your socks if you can't find anything) and secure the terminal in order to avoid the high cost of fireworks display.

Remove the fresh air duct or the Microfilter housing on the passenger side because that is where the e-box is. Please see the attached picture for clarification of how it is suppose to come apart so that no super glue (or Elmer's) necessary during reassembly. (see Figures ebox, ebox1, and ebox2)

DO NOT CONTINUE IF :

You have never bought anything at Wal-Mart.
You have received a letter from Madonna wanting to adopt your kid.
You lost count of how many beers you drank and theres beer cans all over.
You switched to Geico and saved a lot of money.
Slept at Holiday Inn Express.
You are seeing any kind of therapist.
You missed the sale on common sense at Wal-Mart.
You've had head injuries in 1 month or less.
You haven't had any in 1 month or less.
Got some ugly old woman pregnant that got fired from Wal-Mart.
Under the influence of anything or anyone living, non-living, spirit, E.T.
You're not focused and frowning.
You have the attention span of an 8 year old boy inside Toys R Us.
You harness the power of the dark side and your hatred towards Jedi Knights.
You bleed easily.
Your hands are well manicured.
You don't understand anything I have said since you started reading this.
There are golf clubs or baseball/softball bats in the trunk.
You smoked but didn't inhale.
Your definition of multi tasking is sitting in a casino drinking and smoking at a poker table.
You may be adopted and your real parents are Boy George and one of the Culture Club.
You can make a bomb faster than you can make a sandwich.
You have access to any assault rifle.
Haven't made any mistake since waking up.
You think I am crazy.

And now that I have your attention, if you stop and look at things you will figure out how they come apart and come together. Pay attention to how connectors are disconnected and be careful with the wire harness (dont pull the wires when disconnecting connectors). It may be best to get the harness out of the way to avoid damaging any wires when removing the modules. These modules may have sharp edges that can slice a few wires clean. Remember that the idea of doing it yourself is to save money so do not break anything. You know what I am getting at, don't use the control units as coasters for your beverage. Always be aware, you can do everything that any technician can. Clear? I know for a fact that you can replace the e-box fan or I will quit my job and sell bottled water at the nearby theme park instead. But you have to understand and follow all the things I have said. You may have to do extra things when you reconnect the battery. One that is a possibility, initializing the windows but that is easy. May the force be with you.

Thank You All. I never left. I just use the search feature and type in BMW_tech and just answer those to avoid sleeper terrorists. You guys are the reason why I am still here. Y'all are good people. Y'all know who you are. Peace!

E-box a.k.a. Electronics Box for Engine Management = Houses the control units for Engine Management, Chassis, etc...

Since this box must be sealed to avoid water intrusion, we don't want to fry the control units in places like Arizona or the sun. Unlike computers, our control units can withstand quite a bit of heat. They just wanted to make sure. I've unplugged noisy ones on E-38/39/32 in New York where I became BMW_tech many years ago and there were no problems during the heatwave where old people were dropping like flies in N.Y.C. It sets a fault, thats all.

Does the e-box fan sometimes make a little whistle when it's no bueno? I occasionally get a whistle that is reminscent of my fiat spyder alpine radio playing a men at work cassette when the engine revs and settles. weeeeeeee..... weeeeee... Then, on the 7, it all goes away.

Hi Tech! you long and lengthy postings are always greatly appreciated!

My car code is reading C 27A0 control box fan, and 27D5 Failure in Idal speed control. How do I address this?
