Handbrake parking!

Has anyone tried do to the mini cooper style handbrake parking in their x3?

I was wondering how much body roll there would be from such a maneuver. Considering the weight of the x3 I think it would be a considerable amount

The handbrake isn't strong enough to lock up the wheels. Ask me how I know.

I don't understand the big deal with trying to induce powerslides with the parking brake. To quote the latest Top Gear episode:

"And then of course, the day will come, when you have to lend your car to your 17-year old son....and he'll think 'hmmm, if I pull this handbrake lever, all my girlfriends' clothes will fall off' Of course we all know, that what actually happens is this......*crash*"

It's fun if you do it in a safe environment, and if you know how to do it of course. I never tried it with the X3 yet, but I'm sure body roll is not a problem

lol actually it's called downloading a torrent and a bittorrent client....

Finalgear.com always has top gear episodes within an hour to 2 after it airs and offers it in 1080i and 720p and Standard Def

We pay £142 per year for the sheer privilege of funding the BBC and all the huge wages of the directors and 'talent'. Heard of Jonathon Ross? He's paid in excess of £3M pa out of our 'seeing by wireless tax'

Ah, I see. But as a result, your BBC has few if any adverts. That's a good thing. I wouldn't pay 142 GBP/year for that luxury, perhaps 100 GBP is reasonable to see advertisement-free Television.

In the US, our TV is funded by adverts that insult our intelligence. "IF you call NOW, we'll double your offer!!!!!! Just pay shipping and handling and processing"

A large price to pay for no adverts. Actually that's not 100% correct as the BBC advertises it's own products and output. Fewer products now as it got slammed some years ago advertising it's own 'news stand magazines'

Same in the UK. There are many more commercial channels than the 'ad-free' BBC channels. On standard 'analog TV' (soon to be switched off) it's 40% BBC and 60% commercial, even though these are all 'public service' broadcasters. Go digital and the BBC %age is much smaller. Even the BBC commercial spin-off channels (those which show pretty much all old BBC output) have adverts.

£142 per year for a wholly ad-free TV service would be great. but £142 per year for mediocre ad-free BBC output and paying huge 'talent' and management salaries = poor value for money.

Personally I'd prefer to have a tax-free (sorry license free) service and all ads, as I seldom watch anything live anyhow - have a PVR to record stuff I want to see and FF the ads out

I was driving my Wife's 2004 X3 3.0 and tried a number of times to do the handbrake manuever to force it into a drift and was unable.

This was with DSC turned off and with about 6 inches of ice and snow on the road; we just received about 2'-0" of snow in the Buffalo NY area. I was in a safe area with no other traffic around and no curbs that could damage anything so I was going relatively fast.. I do have new blizzak snow tires so that may have caused the it to grip a little more. I guess I'll have to drive my 330i if I want to have fun in the snow.

I know on the X3 you can turn off DSC but does anyone know if the ABS can be turned off as well?

ABS should not affect handbrake system as it is entirely mechanical.

It's true that the handbrake is mechanical, however I have to believe ABS still is activated even with DSC turned off.

On my e46 330i I have the option of turning off DSC, but the ABS will still occasionally activate if the car is being driven hard; like during autocross.
If I hold the DSC button for a few additional seconds it will turn off DSC and ABS as well.

I don't think this can be done on the X3 though.

I was able to find this from the X3 manual:

Press the button; the indicator lamp in the
instrument cluster lights up continuously.
DSC is now deactivated.
Stabilizing interventions of the chassis control
system DSC are no longer available. However,
the braking interventions that simulate the
function of the differential lock continue to be
active

So the DSC can be turned off, but the ABS is permanent and cannot be shut off.
I guess the X3 can't be drifted using the handbrake, or at least not easily.

Hey..We have BBC America over here. We're allowed.

Other than Sci fi Channel, History Channel, Disney and Food Network (Allez Cusine) that is pretty much all we watch in my household.

Most American TV is made for mentally stunted folks.

Only so many versions of Dancing with Ducks and Kardashian Krap can any intelligent person stomach.

As others have said it won't work in the X3. The e-brake is weak sauce. Even with DSC off, an inch or two of water on the road in a heavy thunderstorm, yarding around a corner, it won't happen... No matter what I try in the X3, can't get squirely...damn AWD
