Jim, I understand that, but the thing is, their other "official" positions regarding fluids are a bunch of BS. So why is following that one so important?

DOC: I'm not an advocate or defender of BMW NA's maintenance interval strategy; I'm just attempting to make folks aware of their options.
You obviously have a low opinion of BMW and their "free" maintenance program. I share your incredulous attitude and opt to do all my own maintenance services at intervals I think are reasonable.
I do think BMW NA's oil recommendations are sound and reasonable and, if still under factory warranty, prudent to follow.

10 W 60 Synth. but its not cheap. $20 per litre here in Canada and my M Roadster takes about 6, in other words $140 per oil change (with filter) thats if I do it myself.

I run BMW 5W-30 in the engine.

I run BMW LTF2 in the tranny.

I run Mobil 1 in the diff.

I used to run Redline in the tranny and diff, but after seeing how it comes out after a short period of time, I no longer do. But I have a bunch of MTL, D4ATF and diff fluid I am willing to sell for a great price if someone likes the stuff.

Terry, it's been a while! How much of the MTL do you have?

Sorry, I actually don't have any MTL. I have some D4ATF, and for some reason, about 8 quarts of RedLine Power Steering Fluid?????

I do have a few cans of Super Blue I want to get rid of.

Thanks for checking. I don't need the PS or brake fluid... you could post them for sale on the Classifieds; I'm sure someone needs those.

Thanks again to everyone for the help/advice. The car is running well on the Castrol synth 10/40 (Dynojet, 228whp + 228wtq).
