meaning of dashboard warning symbol!

Hello,

Today a warning symbol appeared on the dashboard of my 325i. The symbol is a cooling function symbol, something like a snowflake surrounded by a triangle (I have attached the warning symbol ). It appears where the time and outside temperature is normally displayed. It appearance is accompanied by an audible "ding". It appears at no set interval, and disappears after a few seconds. I am not sure what it is and wanted to make sure that there is nothing serious is going on.

I searched through the owner's manual and this forum and did not find any warning symbol of the kind that I am seeing but I did found this forum post:

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=336855

and seems like it might be something to do with temp dropping below 37 F. I do recall that temp was quite low but not sure whether it dropped below 37 F or not.

Any help/suggestion is greatly appreciated. Also it would be nice if the BMW included a list of dashboard warning symbols and what do they stand for either in the owner's manual or some where on there website .

Thanks,
-K2

That's telling you that it's 37 degrees and there is a chance of ice forming on the roads, and you should be careful.

Hahahaha go easy on the noobie. This symbol actually freaked me out the first time I saw it but I saw it say on the Idrive screen "Outside Temp 37" and I just figured out that it had to do with freezing temp(or close to).

That's the cause, it chimes and flashes that symbol to make you aware of the possibility of ice on the roads.

Come on now! Not every new person knows to do a search. When I first saw that symbol a few years back, I thought it was alerting me that I got some dandruff on my seat.

The E90 sedan is the last in the line of great 4 door 3 Series BMW's. Too bad.

You mean you didn't purchase the optional BMW dandruff insurance from the dealer? I paid $1200 for five years of coverage.

You mean I'm wasting my time vacuuming my seats after I see that symbol?

I'm surprised the OP has not seen this symbol before today; we have had a cold fall and (so far) winter in western WA (at least by our standards).

I see the same symbol in all of my BMW's so it's probably a uniform symbol.

It is too cold outside. You should open your windows with your heater to the max and rev your engine to increase the outside temperature.

I got the dandruff extended warantee but then, without thinking, took the car in on a regular service and they voided the warantee! I was caught wearing a racing scarf.

That would never be considered to be a waste.

Living in Florida I get to see that symbol maybe 3 times max. When I lived in NYC, the first time I saw that symbol and heard the dreaded chime I thought, oh crap I have major engine or battery failure!

My reaction may be symbolic of an anxiety-driven personality.

Thanks pm, the same symbol appeared on my dashborad yesterday and again coming into work this morning. I don't have I-drive to explain anything to me. I was about to do search the forum when your post came up at the top of the list.

He took the time to Google or w.e and got on here, registered, etc. rather than googling "bmw snowflake"

Certainly an indication that black ice could be forming on the road. For me, the last two times I've seen this it has snowed in less than 1 hr.

In case you didn't know this, your new car can predict snow better than any dude on the weather channel.
