x5 dangerously stalled in the middle of highway

Hi,

I had a 2002 BMW X5 3.0 and it dangerously stalled in the middle of highway yesterday.
EML and ABS warning lights came up while driving and soon the engine went dead at a traffic light. Can re-start the engine but it idled very rough and stalled once I tried to shift into drive. Lost brake and had to be pushed to the side of road.

4 warning lights came up - 'Service Engine Soon', 'EML', 'Brake' and 'ABS'

Would appreciate your input and help.

Regards,
skboo

I would bring it to an independent mechanic who specializes in BMWs and has a BMW GT1 diagnostic machine.

(You need to know that they have the "bmw specific" machine, not just a 'computer'... you want to be able to not just read codes, but also run BMW diagnostics.)

So you were driving, EML and ABS came on.. you kept driving...then at a stop light you stalled? (not quite as dramatic as a 'dangerous stall in the middle of the highway'...)

A bmw dealer will be absolutely THE MOST EXPENSIVE way to get yoru car diagnosed and fixed. To find an indy, it is helpful to search enthusiast boards for recommendations....
