HELP...DSC, ABS and Brake Light all on

I have a 2000 BMW 528I Sport and the DSC, ABS and Brake Light are all on......Can someone please advise as to the least expensive way to repair this situation.

Have codes read. May be a 50 dollar wheel sensor or Abs module.

Dude, use the search function. That is what it is there for. There is likely more written about this topic than any other. It is also too complex an ssue to diagnose over the forum easily. Take the advice above, but read after you SEARCH and then when you have more data ask your questions. If you don't know how to use the search function; ask.

I had the same problem and had the left abs wheel sensor replaced this week. It did not work...
LIGHTS ARE STILL ON!! The abs module was changed as well...LIGHTS ARE STILL ON!! I am taking it to a local BMW mechanic on Wednesday (my last resort) I'll let you know what happens.

I had the lights on as well. I ohmed out the sensors from the ABS module's large connector and they were all fine. I cleaned the wheel speed sensors -- they were dirty, but that didn't help either. I finally sent my ABS to MMasters -- they said that it could not be repaired and sent it back to me. I installed it and insulated it with foil backed insulation and foil tape to keep the heat of the engine off of the ABS module. I tucked the insulation under the existing engine heat shield. My problems with the module and the three lights have been gone for 10 months now with the insulation. This may or may not work for your particular case. Good luck.

Had the same problem on my 528, the cause was the DSC computer, replaced it for $1500 at the dealer.

At first the dealer couldn't figure it out, thought it was a wheel sensor, so they replaced it, and when I go to pick up the car the fault lights are still on (makes you wonder)- so they tried again and the new computer solved it.

You mention that one alternative is simply to ignore the situation, and do without DSC and ABS. Since I do not drive aggressively, this is my preferred alternative, especially since the BMW dealer wants in excess of $2800 to fix all this stuff. From my perspective, the car runs and brakes just fine. But the warning lights are annoying. Do you or does any other reader know how to turn them off?

They will not turn off unless you choose to unplug them or put tape over them so you do not see them. You have asked for advice, read the volumes of data out there and have come back with the two worst and most extreme options; both of which are ridiculous and tell me you did not read what has been posted or don't understand. Between doing nothing and being very unsafe in bad weather or spending 2800 dollars at the dealer, you have seen no other options??? Really.

All these systems interract with others on the car. Letting it go is not usually the right choice. A good indie will get be 20 to 30% less than the dealer, and the dealer, as I have found out (see above post) is likely as confused as every one else over this problem - their solution is to just replace everything, since you're paying, and maybe they'll offer you some free coffee and a dough-nut while you wait (they did for me)

So 540iMan shamed me into attempting to fix this problem, and guess what? It was easy and completely successful! The dealer wanted over $2600 for repairs (some of which turned out not to be needed) but by following your instructions, I fixed it for $105 plus $42 shipping. Not only that, but it was really easy! I had the DSC, ABS, and brake lights on and read through BlueBee's excellent discussion and instructions. I bought a rebuild from ATE via eBay, followed their and BlueBee's instructions and removed the DSC control unit (6 accessible T-20 torx screws), shipped the unit insured to ATE in TN, drove without a speedometer for 2 weeks, followed instructions for putting the unit back on, and voila, problem resolved. I used my Peake code reader to reset the service light, and all is well. Thanks again to you all. You saved me a ton of money! To any others reading this, it's really easy and I urge you to give it a try.

If none of the advice given above works,then the simple fact of the matter is.....you're car is haunted by a Bimmer hating ghost and you need to call an exorcist to fix the situation...

And so can ATE. I am proud of your taking the initiative on your own and you were rewarded for it. You also likely know a lot more about your car and its systems than you might ever have. I could have told you to replace all four wheel sensors at a cost of $265 plus a module re-build for $105 and been 99.99% sure you'd be good to go for under
$400, but you my man did it for less! Congrats- you beat the system at its own game and got a lifetime warranty ta boot. Win-Win.

I did replace both front sensors before I came to my senses. But hey now they're brand new!

First of all, a NEW BMW DSC module is NOT $1300. Buy from Jared for $450. It is new, not re-built. Will require coding at dealer. ! hour labor max. Your module can likely be rebuilt for around`$125 bucks. Some can't be re-built. If it can't be rebuilt they will return free of charge or offer to sell you a re-built from someone else for about $300. At this point, I would definitely buy NEW from Jared at EAC tuning. You have MANY choices and none of them will cost anywhere near what the stealer quoted you.

Why new over a rebuilt with a lifetime warranty?

I had this same problem and this thread was very helpful in diagnosing my problem. Starting my car up, the lights would be off. However, they would appear again after about two stops. The abs would activate after both of these stops until the lights came on and the computer turned the abs off. This would happen every time I started my car, it was not sporadic.

The first thing I did was check the wheel sensors from the abs connector under the hood using the diode and resistance test on the multimeter. All my values were right in line with the write-up. Going on all this information I assumed there was something wrong with my ABS module. Before I sent it out for rebuild, I decided to take my front wheel sensors out and clean them off (It is winter in New Hampshire after all). They were a little dirty but what else can you expect from being mounted to the wheel? So I put everything back together and took a road test. The abs no longer activated on stops and the lights did not come back on. I took the car to a snowy lot and used the brakes to make the abs activate and the abs functioned correctly. I have been driving the car about 3 days since all of this and the lights have not appeared again.

So my suggestion to anyone with this problem is to first clean the wheel sensors before purchasing new ones or replacing the abs module.
