E39 (1997 - 2003)
The BMW 5-Series (E39 chassis) was introduced in the United States as a 1997 model year car and lasted until the 2004 when the E60 chassis was released. The United States saw several variations including the 525i, 528i, 530i and 540i. -- View the E39 Wiki

Mein Auto: 2000 528i Step 215K Miles
Radio auto-dim?!

This has probably already been covered, but I just figured out that the radio auto dims. I thought this was purty freaken cool so I had ta share. Sorry for the cell phone pics. One pic shows me shinning a light at the sensor and look how bright the screen gets. The other shows a pic of me covering the sensor.. and the 3rd shows the sensor just next to the audio button.

There is light sensor on the front of the radio and in your instrument cluster too. The normal daytime LED illumination for both your instrument cluster and your radio will brighten to allow you to see it in bright sunlight conditions.

Try shining light on lower instrument cluster!

Thats awesome! I always thought some days it would look brighter than other days.

The only way you don't have it is if you removed your MID and you have an aftermarket unit installed.
