E39 (1997 - 2003)
The BMW 5-Series (E39 chassis) was introduced in the United States as a 1997 model year car and lasted until the 2004 when the E60 chassis was released. The United States saw several variations including the 525i, 528i, 530i and 540i. -- View the E39 Wiki

i know this is a thread jack but what type of dvd install did you do to get it to work on the stock tv??

The simple answer to this is the BMW TV tuner has an A/V channel. You just need to feed the video from a DVD player/changer into pins 6 & 15 of the white connector to the TV tuner. Then, a little more difficult is you have to get stereo audio into the system. On my 740 I have a switch box that swaps stereo audio between either the CD changer or an Aux audio input (my DVD changer audio output). On my 540, I plan on using the Aux mode of the BM53 radio.

Hope this was what you were asking about.
