Z3: Power steering leaks...

So I assume the hoses are shot on the power steering for the Z. I have ordered all new ones to fix the problem.

However, there seems to be another issue. There is a weep hole in the cap of the power steering reservoir and I think thats letting fluid out. I looked at the coupe and its the same reservoir (checked part number) and it too is caked with grime that I assume is from the PS reservoir leaking. (hoses are clean on the S54 though)

So is there a fix or idea to keep the PS reservoir from weeping fluid out of the cap? Or do I just need a new cap or something?

I am running Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF in the PS systems.

There was discussion on this years ago, but no resolution.

What about drilling and tapping the top after sealing the leak? I could run a flexible hose to a small vent of come kind. Give it more room to breathe?

I found an air filter for a nitro remote controlled car...

Getting ideas.... Maybe they make a miniature catch can. Hmmmm.

I think the leaking is an indication of another issue. As I understand it, the hole is to allow fluid out when necessary. Has it been over filled? There can also be mechanical issues that would cause it to leak, but don't ask me what they are. I took mine to the dealer and they replaced the PS unit under warrantee.

Check the clamps on the power steering hoses

The clamps are notorious for causing leaks, try to clean up the hoses and see if it still is leaking. I had a mouse eat into mine a few years back, guess he liked the flavor. Mine was recently leaking again, but tightening the clamps solved that issue.

I am thinking of making a minuture catch can.

I ordered new hoses, reservoir, and will just replace the whole shooting match and see if that helps.

The top of the reservoir is wet, thats the problem. Not over-filled I don't think. However there is no baffle on the cap, so it would be easy for fluid to come out with my driving style.

I ordered a few of these aluminum bottles to see about making a miniature catch can for the power steering cap.

I know its overkill, but you guys know I can't help it.
