2 days at dealer for "programming"?!?!

Ok -- so my new to me 06 CPO X3 with ~25k miles threw a check engine light (and a few other adjustments needed)

Car has been there for 2 full days now -- this is the latest update from the "service adviser"

"They are still programming for the service engine soon light, eta is hard to say when it comes to programming, normally it takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 12 hours. Depending on how far off is the firmware upgrade but I should have a better idea later on in the day. "

Come on -- I wasn't born yesterday -- what's the real translation -- sorry - we don't have a clue whats wrong with your car??

Pete

(I've got a loaner, but...)

truly: it can take hours for the OLD BMW SYSTEM to install. second, it takes up a service bay and if it take 6 hours, that 6-10 other cars that cannot get serviced in that bay.

After my 2006 X3 was re-programmed a couple of months ago my mpg dropped a bunch.
I was getting 20.5 in all-around driving. Now I'm lucky to see 16.5.
