had our 06 x3 (38k miles) a few weeks and although we don't have any drivability issues, (my wife is in love with her x3) was wondering about purchasing the 100k mile warranty anyway. has anyone purchased one lately and if so would you share the cost.

I just bought extended warranty for my 06 x3 through carchex. it was just under $2,500 for 4yrs/100K. Titatnium coverage, exclusionary policy. Not as convenient as those offered by the dealers, but I wasn't willing to pay a $1,500 premium just to get the convenience. Hope this helps

Just ran out of warranty on my '06 and didn't get the dealer's extension. I just put the $2500 in the bank and will use it for any repairs. So far my '06 has been virtually trouble free and I am not going to keep the car much longer so I took a chance.

we have had our 06 for 6 weeks and love it, but wondered what other things may come up later. we will probably plan on keeping ours for a good while. does the extension cover to 100k regardless of age of car?

No, in my experience there is a time element involved too. That time element begins with the "in service" date of the car -- the original date, not the date you bought it used. So a "7 Year, 100,000 mile warranty" as an example would buy you 3 years and 50K miles extra past the original OEM bumper to bumper coverage.

I admit, I have some fear about keeping this vehicle beyond the current warranty, not so much for mechanicals or maintenance (I can do most of that) but because of the electronic crap. So while I was getting my first "free" oil change, I asked them for quotes on extended warranties. $3800/2 yr/50K, $1400/2 yr maint. WTF? ![]() Seriously? So yeah, it's just going to stay in one of my accounts.
