Heater not working at all
Hi, can anyone help point me in the right direction as to what I should check before resorting to letting a dealer rob me?
My 2006 318d's heater has totally packed up, it's a manual aircon car btw. The heater matrix gets hot but no matter what I do the fan will not run, checked the 30A fuse located behind the glove box, looks okay. It was -2C when I travelled to work this morning, after an hour day in the car I was frozen! Thanks |

Failed blower motor/switch?
You could also move to a warmer climate....

Fixing the blower should be an urgent task as no defrost for the windshield can be very dangerous. A small portable 12VDC heater with blower that plugs into the cigarette socket would be good insurance if the repair has to wait.
Before pulling out the blower try applying 12 VDC directly to the motor with a jumper wire. That will at least tell you if the problem is a fuse or switch. In the old days blower motors had a small resistance block to reduce fan speed but full speed was always available even if the resistors burnt out. If this philosophy of safety is still valid in today's cars then you have no power going to the motor circuit for some reason.
