Alcantara headliner

hey guys just wanted to see who thought it would be worth putting alcantara on my 6 series. There is a guy in town works on lambos, bmw, mercedes and does full custom interiors. He charges about 500 bucks for full alcantara headliner. I think the price is very reasonable, any body have thoughts on this. the only thing im not too excited about is that my headliner is grey. In order for me to do it, i would have grey alcantara as opposed to the charcoal color that comes standards in the M5, the reason for that is because of all the plastic things on the headliner that are grey!!! (((((:::::

wow... for that price I'd do it... assuming this is good quality alcantara leather...

not sure about the color though... can't he get it in black or dyed?

yeah he has high quality alcantara same used on m5, he has the grey, and the charcoal grey that is darker like the m5, but all my plastic pieces are light grey match the headliner now, he said he can paint them but hmm, not sure if i would like that

painting would defeat all the advantages of the alcantara... I just love the feel of that material... dunno why (maybe coz my 6 doesn't have it)...

I would recommend you sit in an m5 with the same headliner and see if you like the combo... you don't want to spend 500 dollars only to wish you didn't...

i bought 6 yards of micro suede , im going to do it myself.

they say that alcantara is better than micro suede true or not?
painting would only be on the little plastic pieces,

$500 is a steal...if it's quality work.

its amazing work, about 10 guys from bmw have their cars done by him, ill post pics, i also saw a car that he did 3 years and its still perfect.

I want to do my headliner in black alcantera. It will really darken the interior. The only thing I have seen is that the pillars fade from the sun if the material isn't UV resistant. I shouldn't have a problem because all my windows and windshield are tinted.

sorry, didn't get the painting part being the trim.. if he does a good job painting it, it may actually end up looking better...

while you're at it, even consider painting the rest of the plastic trim in the car the same color... depending on your car color, some have color matched the exterior with the interior trim paint and it can look good (or too much)...

alcantara is a brand of micro suede but allegedly higher quality than other manufacturers, but honestly, you probably can't tell the difference up front until the micro suede starts to wear down the road.. then you can redo it as often as you want....

but honestly, it's one thing to DIY and it's another to know you paid xxx amount for quality work/material... all depends on where youre priorities are and what makes you happy... I'm a DIY guy but find that a quality installer is 80% of the value... we could have bought a cheaper car but obviously didn't...

i am doing it in the oem color alcantara just like the m5 or m6 color. Ill post pics. I went to bmw to order all the little plastic parts in black, was about 300 bucks but its very worth it!!!!

ill be posting pics, i post pics of some of the other cars he has done. My buddy has an m5 and where the trim is silver he put alcantara there as well.

Can't wait for the pics. I wouldn't mind having my dash wrapped in alcantara since i dont have the leather dash trim.

i wish their were someone in my area that could this for me... i'd do the headrest and the a-pillars chateau red, not a big fan of the tan fabric

can you ask your installer if he knows of people in the seattle washington area that can do this well...I'm interested actually in doing this for my dash since I don't have the leather on it...

guys the alcantara headliner is going to be amazing, like i said I will be posting pics of everything. I went to bmw to order all the plastic parts, even the sunvisors in black. I figured if i do it Im going to do it right. Pics will be up in a few weeks. Prob not going to get it done for another 10 days.
