'Happened to me yesterday... probably about the 8th time so far. This time I counted my paces away from and then back to the car. 30 paces worked. 'Don't know whether the 30 paces will be, in the end, what is necessary. And I don't know if I need that to get my CA to "disconnect" or whether it's just an indirect way of timing the time the car is shut down. But the next time, I'll try 20 paces and see.
It's rare enough that I can live with it for now. It'd be nice to get a software update, but like Pedal wisely points out, sometimes the fix can bring it's own problems. We'll see.

I think it's a software glitch, and I think the car has to be fully off (which takes some time... i was thinking maybe even 20 minutes for the little amber light on the tranny shifter to turn off) and then the radio will be off off and get "reset" when it turns back on... and work again.
Anyway, that's my theory

I was away from my car yesterday for only 3 minutes, tops. I was a bit surprised, but it worked just fine.

Another one
Happened to me too. Picked-up my 2009 328xi w/ logic 7 yesterday. Radio was working fine when I drove it home. Two hours after I picked it up the radio did not power on anymore. My dealer was not aware that this is a common issue and told me they will look into it and reprogram the car's software.

Me too
2008 335Xi, Jan 2008 build with nothing fancy - Just the base radio (no blutetooth ipod, idrive, CA or any of that stuff). Same problem as has been described here many times. happened twice in 1 year of ownership.
Might just be the crummy radio stations areound here, but i notice faint static/ crackeling when I listen to the radio. No issues with CDs (yes I'm pretty old school!) Looking forward to a fix - minor annoyance at worst though.

Even one more 09 owner for the list
I have a 2009 328xi. I picked it up in November and just started experiencing this exact problem a couple weeks ago with the second time happening just this morning.
The first time was on the way to work and when I went out for lunch it was working again, we'll see if that happens today. I do not have idrive, CA or bluetooth but I do have Logic 7 and after reading all the posts on here that seems to be the most common similarity between everyone. I was going to call my dealer on lunch today, but after reading everything here it seems like they won't be much of a help yet. Hopefully the waiting 5 or 10 minutes and trying again will work for me if this every happens at a time where I have a long trip ahead of me and need the radio. Even with a work-around though this is annoying for a brand new vehicle, especially a BMW. I have had an 05 Trailblazer for 4 years without any issues at all. Fingers crossed for a software fix soon. |

I've got a 2009 328i with Logic 7, iPod and iDrive and have never had this issue. I've probably jinxed myself now and will have no radio on the ride home from work.

That was going to be my question. Is everyone with an '09 having this issue? What are the build dates of everyone that is having a problem? (Look on the inside of the door jam of the left door)

Build Dates
Someone earlier on this thread posted that their dealer looked up the issue and said something about it being a problem in cars built after 9/08.

Thats a huge group of cars. Its 05/09... nearly nine months later. Is there a cut off date? I'm about to get an '09, and I would rather not have this issue.

Is this only with cars with Logic 7 and CA?

I forgot about this thread!
I started this thread a few days ago http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=370387 BMW_GAL I am not sure, but many of us with CA and Logic 7 seem to be having this problem and I have a 9/08 build date but looks like some with 07s are also having this problem. Very that given the number of reports we have not seen anything about this problem from BMW.

Latest update I have from a few weeks ago is the engineers are working on a software fix and it should be ready in July timeframe.

New Wrinkle
My 2008 335i WITH iDrive experienced this problem yesterday. My iDrive was frozen on the big, brown 'BMW' logo that normally shows for a second or two while the system boots up. After a few minutes, the iDrive display went blank. The iDrive controller knob wouldn't work, nor the radio mute button. Didn't try to make a bluetooth call in the car, so I'm not sure about that one. Turned the car off, waited about half a minute, turned it back on, same problem.
I was actually at the dealer when this happened for my 1st annual oil change. I brought the SA out to the car, and of course the damn iDrive unit started right up. He speculated that it might be heat related, as it is scorching in Hotlanta now. I normally keep the car in a garage, so I guess that this could be true, but he didn't have any experience with the problem to back up this assessment; it was a shot in the dark. He told me to bring the car back if the problem recurs. I never should have turned it off. Hindsight 20/20. Any feedback on the initial problem reported on this thread? Have any other iDrive equipped owners experienced this?

I just had the car in for service and they reprogrammed the car to fix this problem... SIB 65 12 09. It's too early to tell yet, of course, if it has indeed fixed it.

Good luck. Hope that fixes the problem for you.
I ended up trading in my "problem" vehicle back in July and upgrading to the same model with Nav/HD Radio, which was confirmed not to have the problem.
