DIY Reference - Battery registration

I'm looking to replace the battery in my 2002 E66, 745Li

I found the useful thread in the DIY section

However, it says "Don't forget to register the battery once the new one is in."

My question is...... HOW?
I heard this was a dealer only thing..... Is it?

Yep, registered mine with INPA (using a VAG-COM KKL interface). No problems. INPA has a more simple interface (and is easier to set up) than DIS. If you're a software guy, you should have no trouble getting this stuff running.

Also, find the thread in this forum (not the DIY forum) with the same title as the one you linked to. There is some useful info there (like the shortened version of replacing the battery -- gracias, Haz1).

I got INPA working with my E66.

Now just to find a new battery (90Ah AGM), and then find the option somewhere in INPA.

I got INPA working, but my battery has finally died, so I'm ordering a new one from BMW.


Can anyone point me to where the option is in INPA to do the battery registration?

Power module

HI Keif,

Sorry to sound a bit dumb, but could you confirm which option it is in the Power Module bit?

I have the following
<F1> Information
<F2> Identification
<F4> Error memory
<F5> Read status
<F6> Activate
<F7> Read memory
<F8> Select
<F9> Print screen

Not sure which one is for Register battery.... Any info appreciated.

Thanks to Keif and the folks on here for helping me with this.

Just to feedback.....

If you have INPA working, then select the following to Register the new battery

1. Select BODY from the left hand pop-up menu
2. Select POWER MODULE in the right hand list
3. Select ACTIVATE from the next menu
4. Another menu comes up, which has ACTIVATE1 and ACTIVATE2.
5. Select ACTIVATE2 from the menu
6. Then select F7 - Register battery replacement

Almost instantly you get the message:
"Register battery replacement Activated properly."

Job done!
