Ron Stygar on this forum did that and documented it heavily. Do a search on backup camera or his name.

Ron is your man on the wiring issues. He monitors this forum quite often. Try sending him a private message.

I actually have this

http://www.navvideo.com/navvideo-mod...p?Car=BMW%20Z4

got it for xmas and have been waiting for the weather to warm up a little to install it,

I have camera #3 to go in the keyhole,

Will be fitting it soon, and I might add one to the front as the module has 2 inputs

Has anyone tried the Garmin Nuvi 5000 as a rear camera monitor using the composite video input ? Since some of us don't have all the new electronics this is probably the best alternative. It can also be stored away when not in use.

I'm curious to how good the video update is.

Where will you be mounting that camera? The coupes don;t have a rear keyhole like the roadsters (thats where mines going and I have the same camera as you)

Latest update all installed and it works I have a lot of pictures have to resize before i'll upload it later today. Had some troubles as well lucky i had Navcoder to do some recoding on the Tuner to get it support Pal. Standard it only support NTFS on the Rear View input so had to recode to Pal, it all works well and happy it is done.

Here i go,
first i did some research and found everything i needed to do the job on the net. For your convenience i do a step by step.

Relay

Camera

TV Tuner Blue and white plug

White plug dis-mantled

white plug and AV cable

Ready to test and a plug scheme

Rear lights connector

Looking for the backup light cable

Making the relay ready for installing next to the TV tuner harnaess

Doing some coding with Navcoder on an old laptop

Making cables looking professional

The result

The place i installed the camera close up

The place i installed the camera

Seems like the LED's inside the camera are still getting some power after i shutdown the car the 12V i take from the TV tuner blue plug pin 1 seems to be continuously providing and is not shutoff after the car goes into deep sleep. I'm thinking about changing the 12V from the blue plug to 12V from the backup light himself so the camera only gets power when i put the car in reverse.
Any thoughts about that or other solutions i can look into?

I control with reverse light or on demand with power through a switch to the same spot.

Just updated my wiring scheme to the one i used in the end. Powering the camera from the reverse light so it doesn't stay on after i shutdown the car.
