According to Feb 2010 Roundel, F30 introduction moved up to 2011. Can anyone confirm/provide more details/speculate?

First reply ever on the F30 forum. However, I don't know exactly but I think it will stay the same.

I don't think the F30 will come out this early.

My understanding there will be no more Tourings brought to the US after this year, of any model. (Does that make my 540iT both more rare AND more valuable?)

Wow. That is too bad. I guess my next ride will be an X1, a Jetta Sportwagen or an A4 Avant. I was looking forward to a new 3 series wagon, actually. I suppose I could lease a used one though. Hmmm.

A couple of auto mags are now saying that the F30 will be revealed late THIS year and go on sale in 2011 as a 2012 model. Wow...

E90 sales are doing very well and the car is aging well and not losing any big technology competitions. There is no reason to bring the F30 early. I HIGHLY doubt BMW will bring the F30 to market early. I expect the F30 to be introduced some time between the Spring and Fall of 2012 as a 2013 model in the seven year model cycle that is BMW's tradition.

I am one of those wagon freaks and if there is no 3 series or 5er wagons I am out . I love my BMW ,
but if BMW leaves me with X1 crap and 3GT and no reasonable diesel I'll have to agree with archrenov8 - it is Jetta or A4 wagon. Of course the A4 sucks because has no diesel and is only 2.0T and the Jetta has no AWD and is ugly, and I am not buying a Japanese car ! Do they all hate us ?

LAst I checked the A4 Avant didn't have a manual trans - cross that one off my list. The Jetta has front wheel drive - move that to the bottom of the list. The Passat has AWD as an option (I prefer RWD) but is too squishy in the suspension. The Scubbie's might be an option but again, i prefer RWD. Maybe a Caddy CTS wagon if they fulfill their promise of a manual trans. BMW USA - if you're listening, you better keep the future 3er/5er wagons on the showroom floor and available with a manual trans or I'm jumping ship. No the GTs don't count nor do the steptronic or DSG options count as a manual transmission (it has to have 3 pedals!).

In regards to transmission. In the past there were multiple advantages of the manual trans including performance and fuel economy. Well the performance an fuel economy advantages are gone and we are left with only "driver experience" and some amount of better reliability. Again with the cost to certify each engine/trans combo, slipping manual sales all the time, and reduced advantages, I predect we will eventually (can't say if in 5 years or 25 years) see the 3rd pedal dissapear. Now we are noting each time we use our 540iT as a cargo carrier and how often are we doing someting with it a sedan with folding seats could not. |

Well, if the F30 is to be a 2012 model, then in keeping with BMW tradition, it will probably be introduced in 2011. I think we will see it in Europe in March/April 2011 with U.S. models available approx June/July 2011.

Think about it - the facelift is just now coming for the coupes and 'verts as 2011 models. BMW brings coupes and 'verts one year after sedans and tourings. If they brought the F30 next year (2011) as a 2012 model and then brought the coupes and 'verts the next year (2012) as 2013 models they would get only two years out of the E92/93 facelift. They're not going to do that. The F30 will come out some time between the spring and fall of 2012 as a 2013 model. Honestly, I cannot understand why the mods even created this sub-forum.

So my lease is up in March of 2012. I know the coupe always comes out after the sedan, any idea of we'll have a coupe by early 2012?
I know everything is purely speculation at this point...

I doubt it. Coupe usually follows by a year, so if F30 is out in March 2012 we can prolly look for coupe in March 2013.

I went to my dealer today to drive the new F10 (nice - if big), and I asked CA about any info on the U.S. introduction of the F30. He said that they are being told that the F30 will show up in the spring of 2012 as a 2013 model, with U.S. intro sometime in the summer of '12 (probably June). This is consistent with past U.S. BMW introductions for new models. He did say that BMW is looking into shortening their new model cycle from seven years to possibly six, or maybe even five, but that this would not affect the new F30.
