The dsc sensor is number 2 on my 2005 320d 2l there seems to be two sensors beside each other. How hard is it to change this sensor and are they both DSC sensors.
Cheers
Ray

it might be telling you you're dsc has went out. because when you hold the dsc button for 10 secs to turn it completely off the brake light lights up yellow.

I helped a friend look into this same problem on his M Roadster (Z3 based) last weekend. Generally you need to start with the wheel speed sensors... clean them, test their resistance with a voltmeter to see if any are not functioning properly. There are other components on his car that could be bad too, but we didn't have the proper code reader to get codes from the braking system, so we didn't succeed at solving the issue.

I'd start there since it's an easy thing to do yourself with a floor jack, hex key, and voltmeter. I believe each sensor should read 1000 ohm resistance across the two contacts, but I'm not 100% on that. I'd read and log all four of them and if any don't match, then chances are that is the one that's bad. If they're all the same, then there is something else wrong.

this happened to me once when i went into a car wash. The car wash had a dolly for the left front wheel. So 3 wheels would spin and the left wheel remained stationay. This seem to cause the dsc to turn off utill the car was turned on then off.

No way a sensor is loose. They fit deep into a hole in the hub assembly and are bolted on. Often they need to be pried out with a screwdriver... that's how snugly they fit.

I've got the same problem and I replaced the wheel sensor and it did not fix it. I am afraid it is the DSC module which is big bucks. I don't know if it is a DIY project but would be interested to here what other posters say.

A proper scan tool can diagnose all of the sensors and the module. I stoped by an Independant Shop and asked for a scan on a 5 series. 30 seconds later I knew I needed a remanufactured module and all the sensors were fine. OBD 2 scanner may give a generic VSS code but a specialized tool will check EVERYTHING. I offered the mechanic $20 and he told me to "keep it, so I could afford the new module" LOL
