coolant icon lighting up in the **** pit
i have a 2004 325i every time i turn on the heater coolant icon lits up. so i bought some and to my surprise its still pretty full. does anyone have this problem

Try bleeding the system when it's at normal operating temperature, with the heater on full hot, fan speed low. Then check the coolant level after it has cooled off and add coolant as necessary. Check out the wiki on this site for the proceedure.

The reason it comes on with the heater on is because coolant is flowing through the heater core and that takes coolant out of the system. Try filling it at operating temp with heater on full blast OR bleed it as described above.
