High pitch sound, steering colummn

Ive searched the forum on whistling but didnt see a similar problem. One was close but no cigar

I have this high pitch sound coming from the area below steering column. Its not loud at all but can be heard inside the cabin. Not quite a whistle, more like a mechanical squeak- if that makes sense

1) Maybe comes of every 4 days (just to state its not often.)
2) Randomly comes on, whether driving or stopped.
3) Does not get louder when accelarating
4) Car in drive, neutral, or park makes no difference.
5) AC on/off makes no difference
6) Can hear in cabin of car but not under hood.

I have the steering wheel squeak when I turn, more like some rubbing sound. I was told it's the slip ring.

From the location, something to do with the power steering pump, or the steering rack?

Nothing different happens when I turn.

The power steering pump was just replaced about 10 days ago... Hmm

Not to be stupid, but have you checked your P/S fluid level and condition?

I think if you search under ECU fan you might find the answer to your problem. There is a small fan in there that sometimes needs to be lubed or replaced. This might be the cause of your noise.

Maybe there might be some air trapped in your power steering system.

Anybody?? I just heard the noise last night- I was driving home, been on city roads for about 10 minutes driving about 40 mph hitting random stop lights, so not going too fast. We heard a "whistling" noise- it was constant for about 2 miles, then it just automatically stopped.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
