Making up one's mind about ED after placing order for M3

I am going to order a 2011 M3, and I am contemplating an ED. Has anyone placed an order and made up their mind about whether they want to do an ED or not AFTER receiving their build date?

I'm missing the point. Why would anyone change their mind after receiving a build date? Superstition that the date is inauspicious? I guess you can tell your CA not to give you your build date so that it doesn't affect your decision.

If you want to know about how to cancel an order - run a search. It happens for a multitude of good reasons. Not liking a build date is a new one.

My research suggests that if you don't initially order for ED, you are given an earlier build date than 90 days away. So, it seems that if you can request the ED after you receive the build date, you may be able to pick up the car in Munich earlier than 90 days.

If you can't request ED once the build date as been assigned, then none of it matters. Just curious.

Your premise is 100% incorrect. You could order a fresh ED now and probably get a build date in 30-40 days - if you use a board sponsor who has connections.

That is incorrect. You are given a build date according to the allocation that the dealer has, for a specific time frame. If the dealer has no allocation, you don't get a car.

BMW ED has it's own allocation. They just quote 90 days as a safety net. A lot of folks have put in rush orders - some as few as a month or so.

I am buying from a board sponsor.

That's fascinating. I'll ask my sales guy about that. Can anyone out there who has done this chime in with advice?

I have done this over a dozen time ... and yes... 90+ days is what they want for ED.

It can be done less than that, but seriously... no need to stress out everyone in the food chain unless you absolutely have to. Anything less than 45 days... I'd say you are rolling your dice a bit and not recommended.

Gotcha. My work schedule won't allow a jaunt to Europe in June through August, meaning that I'd have to wait until September to do an ED, and then I'd have to wait another month or two to get the car stateside. No can do.

Guess I'll have to plan for an ED for the next one, years down the road. Thanks for the advice, everyone.

OK, just talked with my salesman, filled out the credit app, and sent it to him. He says May can be done!

And that's why this board rocks!!

I know of someone who did one with only 3.5 weeks advance notice. A global recession opens a lot of possiblities up...

I'm pulling the trigger and requesting an April 26th pick up date!

I ordered my car on Dec. 13, 2009 got a pickup date on Dec. 20, 2009 and picked up the car on Jan. 29, 2010. No problem!
