Placing an order Question for 2011 550i
I've never placed an order for a car before. I called one dealership in Atlanta and they told me because I've purchased Five BMW's they would give me $500 loyalty discount of MSRP. I guess I will need to wait unless I can get a better price on ordering. I would love any feedback on the best way to approach ordering this car. After you place your order can you change your mind and not purchase the car? Do you lose the deposit?
What do you think would be the target price for the configuration below? Thanks! 2011 BMW 550i Pricing: Base MSRP $59,700 Black Sapphire Metallic Venetian Biege Dakota Leather Packages and Options Convenience Package $1,700 Premium Package Included Premium Package 2 $2,800 Sport Package $2,200 Split fold-down rear-seat $475 Metallic paint Included Configured MSRP $66,875 Destination and Handling ? Total MSRP $66,875 Discount from Dealer $500 (pathetic!) Selling Price: $66,375 Thanks, Scott All BMW Owned: 2000 528i 2002 X5 2000 740il 2004 745li 2006 750li |

I would do BMW European Delivery. You will save approximately 11 percent off of US MSRP if you do your research and have reasonably good negotiating skills. That will trigger a 1 to 2 week European Vacation and its associated costs. It is a fantastic experience and if you do it once, you will want to do it again.

Since your are custom ordering, do you have any preference for which dealer you are going to be using? $500 off MSRP is like a slap in the face. I would option out the car and contact a variety of dealers and say you would like to pay $1,000 to $1,500 over invoice. With the F10 being new, they might not be too willing to make a deal but still it is worth considering. The other thing you could do is ordering the car for European delivery - which means you pick the car up in Munich. The European Delivery MSRP is much lower than that for the U.S. so the car is cheaper. As far as I know, the last time I checked European delivery cars do not come out of the dealer's allotment and as such, the dealer might be more willing to give you a better price. Some people even do a quick 12 hour trip to Europe (i.e. pick up the car and drive it to the shipper) to take advantage of the pricing.
BMW has been secretive about invoice pricing but for comparison, in 2008 I got my 535 xi which had an MSRP of 60,900 for about 55,700. I am guessing somewhere around 61K is probably the price goal - again I would defer to some more seasoned experts! |

What did they say about a gas guzzler tax of $1,000? Freight of $875 is the estimate given to me by my dealer. My dealer said that he didn't know if the gas guzzler tax will apply to the F10 550i. I would have expected at least $1,000 off since you are a loyal customer. I would not expect any discount larger than $1,000 until the 2010 inventory has been sold off.

If you buy a standard US Delivery car, you will have very little leverage initially and you will get very little off of US MSRP. The demand will be high initially and the supply limited.

Thanks all. I did send Adrian a message. If I can get $1500 over invoice I will probably pull the trigger. Otherwise, I will just wait it out. I currently own a 2007 M45 that is very nice but just ready to go back to BMW. Here is my current target.

Is the $845 Destination and Handling included in the Base MSRP we are seeing here? I just don't see it on the price list. I see it on the BMW NA site when you build a 2010 550i only.

Quick ED Trip
As far as I know, the last time I checked European delivery cars do not come out of the dealer's allotment and as such, the dealer might be more willing to give you a better price. Some people even do a quick 12 hour trip to Europe (i.e. pick up the car and drive it to the shipper) to take advantage of the pricing.
If I take advantage of the discount by taking the ED, drive to the port/shipper, could I expect to get a respectable tade-in value on my 2006 330xi and also favorable lease terms? |

The only disadvantage of using CarMax is the sales tax savings only if you are purchasing. I've sold a few vehicles to them. Also did a few private parties..but it's such a pain with untrustworthy folks out there..not to mention the dealers too!
