I don't think it's possible, but I'd like to know if it is. Manual does not address it.

Here's an archived discussion: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/arc.../t-241284.html

I think we really have a very good community going on here and a lot of people are being very helpful... I always hate when people just say hit search... if you have the info share it and then recommend they search if they need more...

I support blazinMJ3 on this one.

to OP... I'm fairly sure the answer is NO... there are 2 separate inputs for the screen that feeds the display so electronically it's divided even though physically it's not... but I believe there's an aftermarket module that allows you to play widescreen video using the whole screen.

I think the screen is phisically divided, although you see a big screen, there are 2 separate ones behind the front one. So the answer should be no.
I did recall seing something saying "watch tv and DVD on the nav screen" and seeing a pic of it being displayed completely but I coudnt find it again.

Probably aftermarket.

I've been able to get the nav to show up on both the left and right "halves" but that's useless.

Probably aftermarket.
With aftermarket equipment the entire screen can be used for DVD viewing. It's one screeen, the divide is electronically governed.

There are modules out there to make that happen, however, I don't know of one that will allow the factory information (nav, entertainment, etc) displays utilize the whole screen. The unit below will allow you to play an external video source across the whole screen:

I agree this has been one of the most helpful and RESPECTFUL forums I have been to, thats why I joined. Follow up question, is the navigational DVD slot able to read Movie DVDs or just navigational DVDs.

unfortunately just navigational dvd's.

p.s. i for one HATE when someone asks a questions and a person who knows it just says "do a search - stop being lazy" there are alot of people who can benefit from this WHEN WE DO SEARCH IN YEARS TO COME! If i know the answer to something, i'll answer it even if i had answered it 900 times before. I was once one of those members and till this day still can ask pretty easy questions that i need answers too. thanks to this forum because you guys are all so very helpful!

I read more than I post but IMO, most in the 6er forum people are very polite and helpful. If you go to the General Forum.....be prepared. Some that post there just look throw insults and are real smart a$$es.

i think the search function is great but for technical questions i think posting is good. it gives a chance for people to participate and brings up things that maybe someone new to the forum hasnt thought of or older members have forgotten. either way if someone asks a question doesnt it take just as long to answer it as it does to write a smartass reply?

also the search may yield answers that are wrong... information gets updated all the time... posting the question again allows people to refine the info...

I agree, if you can't help the original poster, stay out of his thread and make your own... somebody else will eventually provide useful info or the thread dies and gets buried...

as for the forum, I have to say it probably has to do with the price of the car and the fact that even the cheapest 645's runs you around 30K... so most people who end up contributing to the forum at least has their act together to be able to afford 30K for a used car... in the general forum you get more a variety of people...

plus the 6 is a unique car... it's a love it or hate it deal and those who love it, are passionate about their ownership... you don't wake up one day and decide you're buying a 6.... you plan this purchase and search like crazy for THE ONE... and pull the trigger when you got the best in the crosshairs... (or you go individual and wait half a year... and find out it's worth the wait )

I've never bought any other car with that much thought or passion put into the process...

That was very well put, I could not agree with you more. I spent over a year researching and reading about this car before I decided to purchase one. Whenver I pull up next to another 6er owner we have nothing but great conversation. It is great to find others who share the same passion. This forum has been a godsend. Lets face it this car is complicated and not everyone is tech savy. So I agree, if you are going to be a smarty go to another forum. This one is for the grown ups!

Hi, the people here are all such a warm group that I've registered immediately to join the forum after browsing here for the last 2 month. I do greatly envy all you guys; where I come from a brand new 630i coupe will cost USD250,000 and a 2007 used one would be USD140,000.

Please to meet all of you.

Back to the original question, when I first got my car I am sure it had tthe option in the display to have FULL screen or the assist window on, after having the iDrive software update it went away, I always have the two windows up anyway so I never really gave it any thought.

Uh oh... I did it wrong

I drove through the lot one day and saw my 6 sitting amidst a sea of other 3's and 5's and bought it 3 days later. Prior to that day I had not even intended on buying a vehicle. Woops.

I will say, however, that mine was gently used. Had it been newer and had a higher price tag, I would have probably done some shopping.
