I have a 2009 335 xi with a USB port but for some reason it will work with my iPod touch (2nd gen.). When i plug in my girlfriends iPod Nano it plays the music fine. What could be the problem here? Is it because I have newer iPod and is not compatible with my BMW?

You are using the right cable, right?

You mean the Y-cable, I presume.

Make sure you have both the AUX cable AND iPod USB connection connected.

That's how the Y-cable works.

Sorry to revive this post but I'm having the same problem with my ipod touch.
Both connectors of the Y-adapter are connected to the car with the ipod connected. Problem is that I can see and choose the songs on the radio readout, but no sound comes out. When I connected my Sony mp3 player via just USB, I was able to go through folders and play. ![]() By the way, did you all get a separate owner's manual for the radio? I didn't. My main manual says to refer to this but I never got it. |

I use an iphone3 along with an new ipod and do not have any trouble with either of them. I finally got the ipod because I got tired of having to uplug and plug the iphone back in everytime I left the car. I use whatever cable that came with my car plugged into the center console jacks.

Not to assume anything but when you plug in your Iphone/Itouch, are you confirming that your volume is actually turned up on it?

Hmmm, good point. Something to try out. I know volume is up on the car radio. Maybe the volume on the itouch was lower because it was connected to headphones. Will check when I get home. Thanks.

Can't you just download to a 4 gig memory (usb) plug it in and play. That is what I do.

Yeah I could, but I would rather charge my phone at the same time while listening to the music from the iphone. Not sure why I'm having so much trouble with it, I feel like I am doing everything right hooking up the iphone to the Y adapter and then switching the audio to ipod. Shows the song that is playing but there isnt any timer and def no sound. haha

That's an interesting proposition. I never thought about doing something as absurdly simple as that. And I'm a techie. Wrongly assumed the MP3 decoding was done on the portable player level, not by the radio. |
