BMW News: BMW Confirms 5 Series Diesel for the U.S.

We've heard the rumors, now we have the confirmation. A BMW official recently told Inside Line that a diesel-powered 5 Series is indeed headed to the U.S. He wouldn't confirm any additional details, like which diesel engine exactly, but he did note that the 5 Series would be one of two diesels added to the U.S. lineup.

So what's the other vehicle headed our way? Our initial guess was the upcoming X3, but another BMW official hinted that it could be something other than the six-cylinder diesels we're already familiar with. BMW has said that four-cylinder engines are headed our way, but was never specific about whether or not they were gas or dlesel powerplants. The company might be looking at trying out the idea of a 3 Series with a four-cylinder diesel to boost it's mileage ratings without sacrificing performance. Sound good to you?
