Comfort Access
Recently purchased 06 650i Conv. Original sticker says it has the Comfort Access package, but it doesn't seem operational. Everything else on the car seems to work OK. Could it just be batteries in the remotes? The remotes seem to work well otherwise. Any ideas?

The remote actually has two batteries. One for the regular alarm transmitter and the other for the Comfort Acces transmitter. When I bought my car, one of the remote was not working so they replaced the battery. You may also want to check if the car actually have comfort access. Sometimes these guys advertise the wrong thing, especially if you bought it from an indy. You can find out easily by calling the dealer and give them the VIN or call BMW NA and and they will let you know all the features that came with that particular car.

Much appreciated. I actually have the original sticker (which shows the package on there). I will have them replace the Comfort Access batteries and see if that doesn't do the trick.

Good Luck. Most people with the comfort access tend to forget that the keys needs recharging and the only way to do it is to stick the fob in the ignition a few months out of the year to keep it charged. I get so used to just having the key in my pocket and driving that I can see how it can easily be forgotten.

battery is cr2032... 4 dollars at most stores... just replace it. there's a cover in the back that pops out. you can see the notch when you remove the key from the holder.

Thanks for the help guys. Just got my car back from Baron BMW. The issue was that the remotes were #3 and #4. Only #1 and #2 can programmed for Comfort Access. They disabled #1 and #2, and activated #3 and #4. Works like a charm. No charge by dealer.

The battery has to be replaced since it is not rechargeable.

Okay, so now I'm confused. Are the batteries rechargeable or not? I have comfort access as well on an '07 650i and noticed since I bought it about a year ago that it seemed to me I had to be pretty close to the car before it would sense if I hit the unlock button. Not a big deal, but I did kind of like the idea of being able to have the roof open so that it was completely down by the time I got to the car.
I assumed it was b/c I rarely put the key in the ignition for what I thought was recharging. When I did remember to do it for a few days, the range seemed to improve a bit, but now I'm thinking this is all in my imagination. So pablo645 says they are rechargeable pan and docpaulo indicate they are not. Which is correct? Thanks! |

OK, let's end the debate by simple referencing the manual! Docpaulo is absolutely correct. It is in the manual, it is a common mistake that folks make since the non-comfort access cars have rechargeable batteries. I circled the relevant part...comfort access cars do NOT have a rechargeable, it is a replaceable battery.

Maybe the problem was your fob was actually an 8GB USB Stick! ;-)
