Classic BMWs, where did they go?
Was I missing something or were there a lot fewer classic BMW's this year. It seemed there used to be a number of 2002 turbos that would show up and a handfull of 2800 or 3.0CSLs. I saw the orange and grey 3.0CSL, but not two many others. There also used to be number of classic M5's too. What happened? Those cars to me are the highlight of the event because they are unique. Sure I love my M3, but E46s and E90s M3s are pretty ubiquitous.

I guess E21's aren't classics

Your car is still one of my all-time favorites. I could buy an E21...

A lot of us were there. The arrangement of the venue made it difficult to find us all in one place.
There is usually a large contingent of classics that come down from Northern Calif. But timing and location made it more difficult for them to attend. There was a primarily 02 plus other classic BMWs event the previous weekend in the Bay area, making it a little difficult to do back to back shows. They also used to love to come to SB for the show. The unknown made it a little harder to decide to come this year. If we have the event on grass and try to divide by E-codes, giving the classics there own specific area, I am sure they will be back in force. A lot of the coupes and such also came up from Orange County in previous years because they also loved coming to SB. Some of them took the wait and see attitude this year. I am sure we will see them next year. That being said, we still had a very good showing of classics this year, But because of the parking situation, we just weren't able to get them all located in the same general area. The E21 Legion were there in force on the Bowl side. Most of the 02s were on the mountain side along with some coupes and classic 5's. Maybe the e36 on 22's was too distracting for you to notice us. The Best in Show was an S14 powered 2002, and he had to park on the bowl side, way on the western end. I was part of the judging of the classics and I must have walked miles trying to make sure we saw everyone who was entered. The Groma booth on the bowl side had 2 or 3 very nice example of 02s, Ireland engineering had one, La Jolla Independent had 3 in their booth. It will be nice when we can get them all organized in the same general area. Check out the photo galleries and you will find many of them. Of course I sorta like this one (thanks to AutoBlog)
