Advise on a X5 diesel

Hi,

New here. Driving a VW Touareg now and up till yesterday sure about getting a new Touareg. untill..... I drove a X5 diesel yesterday and that's for sure what's gonna be.

Dealer here has a demo 2010 nicely equipped for about 7000 under msrp (72000 /79000). It's a really nice car but I don't see why the discount would only be $ 70000 on a 2010 with 12k on it.

Do you guys have any idea how much I would get off sticker from a 2011 or maybe even a leftover 2010? I am from Canada and prices are a bit different here.

Thanks a lot. Looking forward to drive this beast!!

PS I did do a search on this forum and google but can't find much on Canadian pricing.

Erik

That seems real steep for what is essentially a used car. If memory serves I got around $10k US off my new custom order X5. I would look at new to try and get some leverage.

My advice - get a car broker specializing in imports and get your car from the US. I did the work myself, but for the $ they charge would probably go that route next time. Depending on how much you want to load up your new X5, you will save $10K or more.

Yes that what I thought. Called a bit around and they are discounting the 2010 already $2500just over the phone, without even going to the dealer. Should be more in the 65K range.

Did cross my mind but I will lose the 4 years service and gain a speedo in miles. Not a big thing for a lot of folks but for me, as an european, it will not fly. Can't wrap my head around it. Don't know if warranty is transferable either.

That seems like a great deal but can't see that happen here in Canada as much as I would like it. Just bought my wife a new Golf TDI and took me 3 days to get $2500 of msrp. could be I am a crappy negotiator as I can't hide how much I would like to drive the X5.

Thanks for the input guys appreciate it.

Keep looking. I was offered $7,000 below msrp for 2010 X5 35d with 3rd row, which I don't want. It had mileage below 5K km. I got decent deal for 2011 model nicely equipped w/o 3rd row, less then 2K above the offered 2010 demo model. Have the dealer find you same model with lower mileage at the same price, they are still around. They will be sold at some point during summer, as dealers currently do not have many 2011 X5 on lot (in Canada).

Tried to investigate this option when buying my 335i last year. At some point I gave up as I wanted custom order BMW Individual car and it was impossible for me to find dealer in US that would be willing to negotiate with me. BMW NA was threatening US dealership to sell to Canadians. Might be easier when going through broker. Don't know.
As for the speedo in miles, BMW Canada would likely not allow you to register US car in Canada until you have the speedometer replaced for the one with km, which means $$$ for them. You can find lots of info on it online.

$7,000 I was offered on 2010 X5 35d can be broken to $4,000 from BMW Canada and $3,000 from the salesman. From my experience, $3,000 off from dealer is max I was able to get in my area. But I do not consider myself great negotiator. Unfortunately it is different story to negotiate the price here in Canada compare to US. Their market works for customers, our options are somewhat limited.

The car you are talking about, is it a white on black with 4800 k on it? If we are talking about the same car it's for sale in Vancouver (BMW West). Seen it a few days ago. There is another one here in the okanagan, same msrp but with 12k on it.

Again it just does not make sense only $ 7000 on a "used" 2010 vehicle, with 2011 already on the lot. But nothing surprises me anymore. Have seen lots of strange things the last few days hunting for the new ride.

Honestly don't know, did not even check the color combo. It was on my salesman PC monitor.
I stopped being interested as soon as I heard there is 3rd row and no top view camera. That was deal-breaker for me. I plan to switch to non-RFT, so I need the space for spare tire under the cargo area liner. Hard to depend just on RFT on my trips to Cariboo.

The t-egg has much better off road capability if you are really going out in the boonies, but then you already know that.

Moderate off-road capability (only 4km through the forest-can be fun when muddy) is sufficient for what I need, however the closest grocery store is 40km from our cabin (gravel road), closest tire shop is over 60km. Space for spare tire is important for me, for someone else 3rd row may be handy.

The most off road in the 1 1/2 year I owned the egg was a gravel road. Don't care about that. Not going for the new t-egg as the 2010 gets a bit dated, specially inside, and the 2011 will not be available till at least october. Furthermore, it will be a total re-design and think its better to wait at least a year for them to fix the bugs (2004 t-egg was horrible).

Did consider a MB 320 CDI but I prefer the X5. finish and comfort are IMO way better than the ML.

Did sign off today on a demo 2010. White on black with Premium/Exe/Nav/sport/rear dvd/premium audio and no 3 row. got just over 12k off sticker and a good price for the Touareg. Thanks for all the advice and let you know when it's picked up!
