iDrive service system acting weird

Hi Everyone,

I tried searching for this issue but I couldn't find any posts with a similar problem. I'm sorry if this is a repost.

I just bought a CPO 2008 528i a few weeks ago and I am really loving it. The only strange thing is that the service system that tells you when the car needs maintenance doesn't seem to be working correctly. When I start the car, the screen behind the steering wheel flashes saying 6000mls and 05/2012. I thought this was supposed to be telling me how long I have until the next maintenance appointment, and I find it hard to believe I can let it go for another two years

Also, when I go into the service screen I can see all the counters for how many miles to go until oil change, brakes, etc. but none of those ever change either.

I've put about 1500 miles on the car since noticing this and it's always been the same.

Any thoughts, should I bring it to the dealer or is there something I can do to just recalibrate everything? Thanks for any ideas you can give me.

It's perfectly normal! BMW service intervals are condition based and the car factors driving habits and a host of other conditions to determine mileage......it dosen't count down like a clock.

Ah wow that makes sense. Actually today when I got in the car the remaining milage had changed. Thanks for the info!

Is it the same thing with the date that's displayed, or does the date refer to something else? It seems as though the date shown when I start the car corresponds to the month when the car's included maintenance will expire, but that might just be a coincidence.
