M-Sport - 550i only?

How confident are we that the M-sport will be availble in the US for all models starting October?

I mean if history (ie. E60) is any indication:
1. only available starting 2008, 2 years after the new model run from the E39. It was "partially" an option as part of the last model run in order to push sales
2. the M-sport package was only available for the higher end 550i at first

Me thinks the US will get shafted again and we won't get the M sport as quickly (and across all models) as we think....

Audi, BMW, and MB all play the same game. There has to be some incremental enhancements each year. This is not by suprise - the product lifecycle and releases are planned out AHEAD of time.

Thanks for the cruelty BMW....

1-Actually the E60 started as MY 2004 and M Package started with MY 2008...that's 4 years , not 2
2-True for 2008 , but available for other E60's in 2009 but with different wheels
M sport has been announced for US as of October...if BMW considers MB a competitor, they have to have the M Pacjake on the 535 as well...as you can get AMG package on MB E350 and E550

The M-Sport Package will be available on the F10 starting with September 2010 production. It will be available on the 535 as well as the 550...

The following should answer any/all questions about this and other [really cool] enhancements that will be added as of 9/2010 SOP:

Just looking at the list of things included with M-Sport Pkg:

- M Aerodynamic Kit
- M Steering Wheel
- Aluminum Hexagon interior trim
- M double-spoke light alloy wheels

Wow... the M-Sport Pkg is as cosmetically oriented as the ZSP. Where are the performance enhancements? E.g. M-Suspension?

I imagine they're saving the extra special stuff for the M5...

From other forums, it looks like they can order an M Sport Suspension in Germany and Netherlands (maybe UK too).

Check out the fifth tab of this German Build Your Own -- at the bottom "M Sportfahrwerk" for 420 euros. It lowers the car 1 cm and apparently you can't get the dynamic handling package w/ the M Sport Suspension.

You have to pick a model, eg 535i Limousine, before you see the tabs...

The car is lowered by slightly more than 3/8" which is comparable to my current 2008 M-Sport 550i. It is wonderful that the M-Sport Package will be available for order in the US this October. On the E60 they didn't bring the M-Sport Package to the US until 4 years after the E60 was in production. My F10 which I am picking up in Munich via European Delivery rides too high for my taste. I would have ordered the M-Sport Package in a heartbeat if it were available for Euro Delivery on July 13. I have really enjoyed it on my 08 550i.

I went to the German website and configured my car with the m-Sport Suspension. I just use Google Translate to translate the web pages into English. When I added the M-Sport Suspension to my 550, you could seen the body drop down lower on the photograph. Pretty cool. In Germany you can get the M-Sport Package without the overcooked M-Sport Body Panels like we are forced to do in the US.

Hmm... are you sure the M suspension is included in the US-spec M-Sport Pkg? Nowhere in the description of the M-Sport Pkg says anything about it.

From what I understand, USA M Sport Package does not include the suspension -- only cosmetic. In fact we can not even get the M Sport Suspension. This sucks.

So our choices are stock or DHP (ZDH). I think the DHP is cool, but what about reliability? When something breaks, what happens to the handling? I'm sure it will be expensive to fix. One option would be to buy the stock suspension and tighten it up w/ aftermarket springs, shocks, roll bars, bushings.

Does anyone else find this interesting:
quote from the above link re: M-sport pckg.
The M Sport Package (ZMP) returns to the 5 Series delivering performance and style for the most enthusiastic of BMW drivers. The package starts where the Dynamic Handling Package leaves off but brings a number of M style visual cues.

so what does this mean exactly regarding the Dynamic handling pckg? can you get both or are there some type of suspension mods that will prevent you from getting both?

From the German BMW website:

M Sport suspension (S0704) This chassis developed by BMW M GmbH includes a firmer chassis design and a vehicle deep lapping 10 mm. Customized damper, shorter springs and stabilizers with high torsional stiffness optimize the ground of your BMW under sporty driving without compromising security.

Also you can not configure both the M Sport Suspension and Dynamic Handling Package. You can get one or the other.

Just to be clear, the Germans can get one or the other. We in the USA can not get M Sport Suspension. Also, the US M-Sport package does not have the M Sport Suspension -- it is purely cosmetic.

Got it..no M sport suspension in US. So get M spot package instead of "regular" sport pckg and Dynamic handling package.

Depends on what you're looking for...

In the USA, if you want the best handling, then you'll need to get the sport package and the dynamic handling package. If you want the cosmetic benefits of the M Sport Package, then you can get that with or with out the other two packages.

Are you sure I thought sport pckg was comestic only?

You're right, I mis-read your post before... The dynamic handling package includes the sport package but I think the only thing that's not cosmetic on the sport package aside from the larger diameter wheels is the increase in the top speed limiter.
