Smile Just placed an order for my 2011 3-series!

Hey everyone, today I just placed an order through my dealer for my second 3-series. My current lease ends in a few months on my 08' 328xi.

My configuration:

2011 328i x-drive

Deep Sea Blue Metallic
Oyster and Black Dakota Leather
Light Burl Walnut Trim

Premium Package
Value Package
Sports Package
iDrive Navigation
Heated Steering Wheel
Harmon Kardon Sound System
and Xenon Headlights

My CA was not sure about when I will actually take delivery of the car but I do know it was scheduled for production on the third week of July (On BMW production list it shows 07/29/10 which my CA said it meant the 29th week of the month).

Does anyone have any idea how long it usually takes for a car to come in on a special order? I have had a good friend who ordered a car back in January and it took until the very beginning of March (He ordered in late January).

The CA told me he's not sure exactly when it would be in. He honestly would not even give me weeks, I even said "about 6-8 weeks?" and he responded by saying "I hope maybe sooner"

BTW, does anyone have any pics of their Deep Sea Blue 3-series?
Any pics of light walnut trim?

Any and all input is greatly appreciated

UPDATE: I have some numbers here from the dealer. This is the worksheet they gave me and this is what I will be payinng. I question some of the things here, do you?

MSRP: 46,415 dest. incl.

The dealer is giving me $2015 off the MSRP PLUS I had a $1000 SPRING DRIVE credit from test driving the new 5-series.

My Cash Cap reduction is $5380.45----> this is with the $1000 SPRING DRIVE credit.

The residual % is 62 and the money factor because I am a returning customer is .00185 with a final residual of 28,777.30 that is with 12/k mi. year

725 Acquistion fee. ---> IS there negotiation here??? My CA said NO.

WAIVED Security deposit.

$147.50 for title and plates and also $36 dollars for registration.

I have to put out 6227.75 out of pocket and my monthly payment will be 409+ tax which will be $446/month

Here are my questions:

1.) My money factor is higher than what BMW has on their lease worksheets (which is .00170) because my CA told me that since my security deposit is waived that they raise the MF rate to compensate, and if I wanted the .00170 rate that I would then have to pay a security deposit. IS THIS TRUE??

2.) The total out of pocket is $6227.75 which is $847.30 more than the actual money being applied for the cash cap reduction. Now I understand that there are taxes, first mo. payment and other fees but all the math I do won't add up to 847.30. Any ideas?

Also, some people have been saying this is too much of a down payment for a car, but I like my monthly payments small and plus, the money all goes to the same place anyway. (I also know that if god-forbid the car was totaled I loose my downpayment, but doesn't GAP insurance cover that?)

Congrats!

Is the oyster/black dakota combo an individual option? I don't recall seeing "dual" combinations when I ordered.

Enjoy your ride. It seems shipping times can vary greatly but it seems production is ramping up again so perhaps cars will move faster. Do you know where your car is being manufactured?

Nope it's a normal option, I'm actually about to pull the trigger on the same combo but with a 335xi. Example with aluminum trim

Just curious... why would you order one to be built rather than having the CA search for one with those specs? Is it not available anywhere or do you just prefer the idea of having it built for you?

Not trying to flame or incite. I'm just genuinely curious since I've had the CA do searches for all of mine.

When I ordered my 335, build completion was 7/10 (yes, she just had a birthday!) and it was at my dealer (in the Midwest) on 8/3.

I'm not the poster - so I don't know his reason - but I've ordered a number of cards to be built. It's one way to get EXACTLY the car you want. One or two packages/options additional that some dealer ordered (that you don't want) and it ends up being a lot extra. Plus, if you have the patience it is sort of fun (and painful.)

Same here, it doesn't cost any more to order and you get exactly what you want. In my case finding a car with the options I want in the colors I want with a manual trans can be tough.

I just ordered my first BMW today also (335xi) after 13 years of Audis!, and I can at least answer for myself why I ordered one. The lease on my current S4 isn't over until the fall, and it was easiest to just order the new car now, so I get exactly what I want and it'll come in right around when the old car gets turned in.

As I only buy MT cars, it's unlikely a CA search will turn up the car I want with the exact options/colors I specify. So I have ordered all 4 of the new BMWs I've purchased.

The waiting time from initial deposit to delivery has varied from 7 to 12 weeks.

When I was still in the leasing game, my custom ordered cars took almost 6 weeks to the day from talking to the sales dude to driving away.

Ordered mine Dec. 23 and picked it up March 1st. As has been written above, dealer couldn't find what I wanted primarily because I specified the MT.

That indeed would be a neat trick.

Well, my combination wasn't really available from what I was told, I originally had space gray chosen as my color option w/o the sports package and the CA couldn't find one at all. I went back and changed it to deep sea blue and I never even had him look.

BTW, the more time that goes by, the better it is for them to return my lease since there are still a few months left on it.

WOW, that's fast, I remember them telling me that the car got pulled fast and I could be 4weeks until it arrives. When I ordered the space gray color, it got pulled and was scheduled for production (code 150) the next day!! So when I went back to change the color (as I stated above) they had to build a whole new car because the code 150 is not able to be modified.

It's not individual, the oyster leather option is listed as 'oyster and black dakota leather' which the only black leather is on the shifter, the emergency brake, and the steering wheel.
