Broken Trunk Lock - 1988 535i
I broke the key off in my 1988 535i. I was able to get the partial key out of the lock, but the latch is stuck.
Can anybody suggest how to get in the trunk? I've already been to 4 locksmiths who could not get the spare key to work. I've tried unlocking and locking the doors. I guess I may have to get the lock drilled if all else fails. Thanks for any and all suggestions. TJ |

The bottom section has one bolt on the lower center area, then you have access to the bolts that hold the backrest (vertical) section. There's cardboard on the inside of the trunk. Good luck.

Thanks!
I'm going to try that as soon as I get home this evening! I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks again! |

broken keys are my faux pas
my trunk did the same to me on my 1986 535i .. i broke the key in the lock and had a guy who had an ilco key making setup duplicate my broken key but what i ended up having to do was go to BMW and have my key Code-Cut so that it would match perfectly to my car.. 70 bucks at my local BMW dealership.. also try spraying a ton of WD-40 into the lock and try your spare key.. i got my trunk open that way but i still recommend replacing the original key. then get copies made!
