E63 / E64 6 Series (2004 - 2010)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

Engine would not start?

I have an '08 650i. I live in Tokyo and I therefore don't drive the car that often; usually when I'm getting out of town for a weekend or something like that. In particular, it hasn't had a decent run recently because I've been traveling a lot on business internationally.

Anyway, I drove the car about five miles today to do some shopping. On the way back, I stopped for gas, and after the car was filled up, it just wouldn't start.

Everything looked completely normal; except the starter motor did not attempt to turn-over at all (not even the slightest indication of turn-over). Basically I pushed the engine start button and nothing happened. The only lit indications were the handbrake and the yellow check-engine light.

This persisted through a couple of attempts, including turning the car off completely, and then back on again. The garage staff called up BMW Japan for me, and there was a lot of to-and-fro in Japanese that I didn't understand at all; in the end, BMW said they were going to send out someone to tow the car.

This all took about an hour. Anyway, just on the off-chance I got back into the car and tried it again and -- hey presto, started first time just as normal.

Any ideas? I'm going to take the car into the dealer on Monday to have it checked out. I wonder if it might be battery related since I haven't driven it recently; but it's weird that the starter didn't even try to turn over and then it started again a bit later.

I have the battery charging right now just in case.

sounds like a typical bad battery... I would have them check the battery... also make sure the battery connections are good....

somebody on this forum many months ago had the same problem when they went to stop at starbucks... maybe they'll chime in...

you really need a battery tender based on your driving habits
