Speakers and power seats short out on bumps

I have a BMW 535i, 1988....I just started experiencing an issue where my speakers will short out if I hit a bump on the road. The radio still works, but it is like there is no power getting to the speakers. I also noticed that when this occurs my cigarette lighter (for charging my ipod) shorts out, as well as my power seat controls. Any idea on what might be causing this?

Some kind of bad electrical connection. Check the fuses, they're known to be problematic. The battery terminals should be taken apart and cleaned regularly, not just the battery posts, all the cables and connections. Older cars are prone to corrosion at many places that effect electrical circuits.

Thanks! I actually found the issue. The fuse bracket in the fuse box was not gripping the fuse tightly. All fixed!

That's a common problem. The types of fuses used in the e28 are pretty lousy.
