This thing is getting more real everyday. I have also heard that it will be built in Leipzig instead of the current 5er plant in Dingolfing.

I think the interior is quite nice.

They should just re-release E39's with updated electronics and interior instead of the F10
At least they had some nice trunk space

A lot depends on driving it - has anyone other than the paid testers?

THAT photo of the interior/dash is appealing, Everton, but the section across the dash below the nav panel/radio is very glossy carbonsomethingorother, looks like, and not so appealing. It might even create a glare with the sunroof open or a direct low sun at the rear. I'd probably want to tape it over before long, or stick on little dinosaurs. Maybe that's what it's for?

I don't know what they are. At this time I am not too concerned about sunlight glare. It can be addressed by anti-glare coating. In my opinion, don't get the ceramic package, which makes every button so shiny. It is available on 7 now.

The car can now be configurated on UK website.

Why buy a GT

There is a lid for every pot and in this case I am it

I just leased a loaded GT 550ix (pick up is next week). It was not the car I intended to lease, but as you will see there are reasons.

After a long hiatus from BMW, we recently purchased an X5d for my wife and we have been thrilled with it. Fact is she rarely lets me take it

My car was stolen on 6/26 and I decided it was time to get my own BMW. I set my sights on a 550ix sedan, but was disheartened to learn i would have to wait months if I wanted xdrive (which is becoming a necessity where we live) and still had concerns over rear seating and cargo space albeit lessened by the new F10. I was also bothered by the lease prices. I then looked at the 750i. Clearly there are no flies on these, but again the lease costs got out of hand.

The net here is that while I agree that the exterior style is not great. It has everything I wanted in the 7 and the lease for this $82k car turned out to be substantially lower than a much cheaper 550i. The GT lease incentives are impressive.

Yes I will be forced to park it tail against the wall and live in shame when in public (assuming you see me when I rocket by ), but behind the wheel it is all mac-daddy to me .

To help me overcome this stylistic tragedy I was hoping someone could suggest a site that sells aftermarket interior items to spruce her up a bit...like the red seat belts that porsche offers. Anyone have any ideas.

Thanks

Congratulations! Enjoy your ugly new car Just kidding - it's not bad. Have you picked it up yet? How do you like it? JC Whitney has a lot of stuff, not sure if they fit BMW. Post some pics!

You know, I wasn't overly impressed with the 5GT when I first saw it on the lot, but after seeing a few on the road, my opinion is changing. The car really looks great in motion.

Ive got one and I have to say after coming out of an E66 I really like it, it is much faster (as all the e65 sport guys say it is) and still comfortable enough, I think the mitigating point for me is that interior wise it is all 7 series (options, dash, finish) and still has enough room (Im into larger cars and the 5 series is a little tight for me)

Actually I think that people prejudice themselves with the exterior and then when get to driving it are carrying that with them, now is it a true 550 as far as performance no of course not, but I would love to have a 535 try me with it.

Oh and the lease incentives definitely make it worth it .... My only downfall is I had to get alpine white (wanted the blue), but got the cinnamon/black interior

It may be more capable than you might imagine, both in a straight line and in the twisties. Trust me, I have 7k worth of experience

Anyone have sales #'s on these cars? I've literally seen 2 only in all the months since it's been released. And I'm in BMW galore land over here.

Anyone see the GT being killed off early due to bad sales?

GT's arent mass produced, its a niche model so there will always be less than of them around than the F10. Sales across the board - taken into account "globally" are on target from what I hear. Additionally, its primary markets arent the US. So whatever happens stateside is a bonus, if not, BMW can scale back production to focus on the key markets.

I personally am glad I don't see them on every corner, kind of reduces the Camry effect - no disrepect to Camry drivers.

BMW stated with their June sales numbers that 12,000 has been sold worldwide. I think they only expect about 2500 a year in USA.

I have only seen 2 on the road here in Atlanta.

I saw a couple each day I was in Germany (generally speaking).

I don't recall seeing any on the roads here in the SF Bay Area, other than at the dealership launch. Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing any at a dealer recently either. Custom order only?

Drove a 535GT today as part of the Ultimate Drive Event. The drive was far from ultimate--very few chances to really push anything, either laterally or linearly. That said, the car felt reasonable nimble and sporty. Certainly more than I expected it would be. It's no 3er, but if you want that then buy a 3.

I drove one in the Ultimate Drive, actually impressed. The car handles as well as the sedan, but with higher seats for better view; it also makes the rear passenger seats easier to get in and out. The trunk space is much more functional than that in a sedan. Overall I like the GT better than the sedan models.

The view to the rear is terrible, however. The rear canopy is highly curved so it's like looking out the back of a convertible with the top up, or worse.

Looking through the rear to parallel park may be a bit more difficult, but during regular driving its not an issue. However, I do not recommend anyone buying the GT without the rear camera. Cameras are on just about everything these days, even my G coupe has one.
