For those of you about to place an order... (September '10 Build Changes)

The LED coronas haven't been confirmed either way - the brochure indicates them on one page, but no other mention of them in other typical places.

I agree the other updates seem pretty mild. I only wonder whether the new iPod Out functionality might have more "future proofing" capability, it sounds like it basically displays whatever the iPhone/iPod sends it - so I wonder if Apple will upgrade that in the future to include more capabilities (i.e. the Holy Grail - Pandora/3rd party app support). I could care less about album art.

I didn't bother to postpone my order - if you get a Sept. production, it's likely you won't be able to use the Ultimate Drive $1000 credit (need delivery by Sept. 30). Updates weren't worth that credit IMHO.

I have an X5d scheduled for production the week of Aug 23 and asked to have the production moved back to September. Now my salesperson is telling me these upgrades won't go into effect until Oct 10 and that I should take the earlier delivery. I'm torn what to do. I'm excited about getting a new car earlier but at the same time tend to use all the tech I get.

I'm in the same boat. I'm really thinking about cancelling my order and wait until the new features are avail. By the way I am working in the DC area right now and did the Ultimate Drive Event tonight at Russell BMW in Baltimore. I was really disappointed with them. I asked three CA's there about the new features and they told me they have idea what I was talking about. One of the CA's told me he has been working for BMW for ten years and would never think that they would display email and text msgs on the iDrive. I was soo frustrated4 but did the event for the $1k allowance.

Anyways, that's not good news that the upgrades won't go in until Oct 10th production. There's gotta be an option to upgrade the software and hardware later at the BMW dealer.

Yea my CA said she would resubmit my build today for September production, and assured me the updated Bluetooth and other features would be included. That was the whole point of waiting after all... She definitely had no idea about any delay until October.

Are you sure about this October thing? this is the first time I'm hearing about it.

I'm not at all sure about the Oct 10th date, I guess my skepticism of my CA's statement didn't come out in my prior message I was hoping somebody else had some firmer information. I think I'm going to ask for a Sep production and hope for the best...I'm too impatient to wait until October.

Ordered my X5d on Jun 29. At the time my CA said something about having to take delivery within 2 months to qualify for the ECO credit. My CA assures me that delaying a week or two won't wake a difference. Does anybody have any experience with this?

if its software updated then bmw should allow people to go to the dealer and receive the update. Otherwise they are poorly managed.

let's start writing letters! Even if it's a hardware update, they should make it available for us to purchase to upgrade.

It's explicitly stated in the bulletin that these changes involve hardware tweaks, are not retrofittable to pre-Sept 2010 builds.

My CA is doing research for me right now. He also said my car arrived today and I'm seriously thinking about having him re-order another one with a September build for me.

Just to follow-up. I spoke to my CA about this again, asking why to trust the dealer's word over what looks like a factory memo. He says that so many customers are asking about this that they asked BMW for clarification again this week. The response is that these new features will be integrated on a rolling, model by model basis starting Sep 1, primarily at the German factories. The Spartanburg start is Oct 10, according to what they've been told and through official channels.

I seem to be the only one who has heard this date. Has anybody gotten more clarification from their CA? I don't want to wait until October so I'll probably take the earlier production date. Apparently slots are opening because a lot of people have requested september production dates.

If this is true, can you imagine all the poor saps that change to a September build of x5 or x6 specifically for this reason, only to find out when their vehicle arrives that SC isn't doing the change-over until October.

Poor them, and their poor dealers who would be stuck with a flood of custom ordered X5s that weren't bought on delivery (assuming people reorder).

And that's interesting about the Oct 10 start date. The explanation makes perfect sense, will hopefully be confirmed by others soon as BMW spreads the word to their dealers.

oh well. My CA just called me and my car is in. I'm going go ahead and pick up my car.

Anyone have an update if the production changes go into effect or a September production date or October? I'm signing the deal for my X5d today.

I went to the dealership and asked the sales manager to hold my car for September production. He said he will put priority 3 instead of 1 and when the Sep production starts he will put back priority 1 for my car. Hope we'll get the updates in Sep production otherwise BMWNA will have a lot of angry customers!

Anybody have any further updates regarding the October 10, 2010 start date for these new bluetooth updates for the X5 E70 in SC.

I have a production date for third week of September for X5D and was debating delaying the order.

As usual

1) my CA
2) Dealer
3) BMW NA Reps

..have no clue about these changes.

Anybody have any phone numbers that I can all.

I Had my CA hold my build to make sure it had the updates. She just got back to me last week with a new production number slotted dor the first week of September. She said she confirmed and reconfirmed that the updated bluetooth system will be in my september build.

Im not sure about the October delay rumors... This thread is the only place Ive heard that... You would think BMW would have mentioned a delay btw since September is around the corner. I dunno.

I trust my Ca, she's been straight with me since day 1. This is my second custom order btw... I had to turn down the first for other reasons. That was in early July. I've been holding out for these latest updates... Nobody knows that better than my CA.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but has anyone received reliable information whether September/October build will include the new LED corona running lights? I've hit a dead end with my CA.

So are you week 36 build?

I am week 37 build and just want to be 100% sure I am in the Sept. build cycle. Would deff. for once would love to get the latest stuff...I am always the guy who just misses an update by a month or two...hopefully this time around I get all the updates...wishing for the LED Coronas

Exact words from my CA: "This production slot is for the 35th week of the year and we confirmed that it will have the bluetooth system upgrade."

Cutting it kind of close I guess... Wednesday is actually the 1st. Hopefully they know what they're doing! I'm hoping they're slotting me in for one of the very first off the line with the new updates I don't even want to think about that not being the case! Haha

Ok, I think I have some more info but I'm not sure if it applies to us x5 people. Some guys in a 5 series forum mentioned the inclusion of a "6vc combobox controller" on the order list. Apparently this is the new piece of hardware which makes the iPod and BT features possible... At least in the 5 series. Not sure about the x5. My order doesn't have this so now I'm concerned...

Does anybody with a recent order sheet have an item with code 6vc on it?

2011 5 series got this update already. The rest of the 2011s are supposed to be in the September build. Im going to order my car on Thursday. I really hope I get those new features, I have streaming bluetooth in my wifes 2011 Sienna and its awesome with the Iphone 4 but it doesn't show any information on the screen. BMWs BT streaming is supposed to show everything including album art. Thats awesome

I seem to be the only one getting the Oct 10 date so I went back and spoke to my CA today and showed him the quotes from swamyg1 and asked why everyone else seems to have heard differently. He showed me an e-mail from Alanna Bahri at BMW NA who is apparently the production manager for the X5 in Spartanburg that confirmed the Oct 10 date.

My CA has been great and offered to change the build date to whenever would make me comfortable, but still firmly believes his info is good. I've decided to stick with the earlier date (mine is scheduled for next week) since Oct 10 is definitely too long a wait for me. If it was a more substantial upgrade (like an 8spd for the diesel), I'd wait

I guess in a month we'll all know for sure!
