This harness can be modified to add an amp to the SWS, but you will need a separate LOC for the front speakers. And this is just to amplify the already xover and EQ OEM amp signals, it will no do anything to those signals other than lower their level.

Recoding is 100% reversible, but you will need to run RCA cables/OEM remote turn on sugnal from the back of your OEM HU/iDrive to the trunk.

I just realized that the front speaker outputs may not be full range. Have to look at other alternatives now. Thanks.

If you recode the 4 outputs will be full range, flat, low level, balanced analog signals.

E65/e66 L7 amps aren't a matter of if they will fail, but when. If you have thoughts or a solution to bypass the sardine can digital junk, bring it on!

Alternatively, I have 2 cores on the shelf and would be glad to send them for testing in search of a solution.

The biggest problem experienced with failed L7 cans on e65/e66 is noise out of the subs and the driven speakers, generally no music. I presume the signal is digital to the amp so direct input into an aftermarket amp is not an option. Maybe using a DSP amp from e39/e38 to get the signal into analog would be the ticket. Those are cheap and plentiful.

The E65/66 uses MOST protocol as inputs to its OEM amp, the E38/E39 was analog into its OEM amp, the DSP was inside the OEM amp so they are not compatible.

I think that the E65/66 iDrive can output a combination of high level and low level balanced analog (like the M-ASK in the E60) after recoding, as I can see the option for a HiFi amp in the E65/66 in its parts database. The Top HiFi amp can be completely bypassed then and aftermarket amps/processors can be used instead.

Creating a PnP harness after recoding is not that difficult, however a converter will have to be used to convert those unusual high and low level analog signals into all low level non-balanced and a processor with summing and De-EQ functions could be needed as well. A JBL MS-8 processor can do that in one single device, and give you a much better Logic7 processing than OEM as well, while keeping the OEM speakers if desired. If the rear of the E65/66 iDrive unit has a Quadralock connector then a harness is simple; a photo of the back of that iDrive would be very helpful.

The recoding can be done at an Autologic shop.

- logic 7 and its multi speaker output or
- Hi-Fi and its 4 flat, full range outputs (no signal to amp at all)

The OEM amp will cease to receive the MOST digital data once the CCC is coded to HiFi. No simultaneous analog and digital outputs are possible.

Is the X5 equipped with the Premium Sound? If so, can you check if its OEM amp 20-pin connector is exactly the same as the 335i OEM amp? I suspect that the X5 Premium OEM amp 20-pin connector does not have 12V and ground on it, it is a separate connector in the amp.

This looks very interesting. I have a 2011 E92 HK/L7 system and have been thinking about my various DIY options for improving the sound. I have the following equipment lying around:

PPI PCX-480 4 Channel Amp
JL Audio G1300 Monoblock Amp
JL Audio 10W1V2-4 (in carpeted trapezoidal enclosure)
Dynaudio 8" Mid/Woofer Pair (Left the tweeters in the old car because they were glued in)

My current idea is to use your harness to connect the G1300 to power the stock underseat subs, as a pilot project. The amp seems small enough to conceal completely, but I have not removed the trunk lining to see what space is available. Does this sound reasonable? Any other recommendation?

I have a 2004 X5 with DSP amp. The connectors are different from the 20 pin you have here. There is a 15, 18, and 26 pin. I'll PM you too see if there is an opportunity here.
