New toy, new problem

My new toy (1997 740 IL) is great! Love the power and fun to drive.

One small problem though........speedo won't show speed....doesn't move.

Also no cruise control, tripometer, or mpg guage operation.

All other stuff in cluster seems to work fine.

I would imagine that these symtoms are related to the same problem since it all has to do with speed / rotation of the tires.

1. All fuses are OK......relays I'm not sure about.

2. Took the cluster out and popped it into my other 740......everything works...

I'm a little lost and really pressing my luck driving this car without a speedometer!! It likes to go fast!

Anyone have any ideas for a fix?

Thank you in advance

I'd start with the speed sensor, but I'm not sure if it is in the transmission or the rear diff on these cars. Also, you might get a tamper dot on the odometer sinse your car is probably now classified as true milage unknown.

Every new E38 owner should check out for some very useful information on these cars.
