S62 engine in a e38
could you swap a s62 engine from a bmw m5 into a 740il maybe including the 6 speed tranny as well considering that they are pratically the same engine right just bored larger in the s62. Has anyone done it already. Thanks

it has been done. I forgot the engone number but I guaranteed it is a E39 M5.
As for the cost, I will not mention it.

Your main concern would be cost, though it is absolutely possible. You would, however need to have a new propeller shaft made, as there was never a manual LWB E38. It would not be an easy feat considering the vastly different sensors and wiring that the S62 requires. It's far from a plug-and-play replacement.

wow old thread. i have an idea to get a V12 and stick it into a short wheel base E38. i think that would be cool.
