bluetooth pairing

I'm new to this forum so pls forgive if this is a repost. I just acquired a CPO 07 530xi and am having the toughest time trying to pair up my BB. When at the comm menu, I can't seem to be able to find the pair new phone selection or any other options under the phone setting. I press the "i" but nothing happens. Does anyone know why this is the case and any recommended resolutions? Thx a bunch.

On second thought, looking at your pictures, it appears a phone is already active and connected? Do you have too many phones paired to the car?

I see the phone signal strength icon on the bottom so there must an active BT connection.

There were a few phones that were paired but I deleted all of them since acquiring the car recently. Thereafter, I can't seem to find the menu to add any new pairings. If the system is paired with a device, I couldn't find that device through the menu or sub-menus. Very strange. Would BMW Assist help in any way?

The signal bars in the pictures don't necessarily mean that a phone is paired - it could just be the car's built-in telematics used for BMW Assist. A signal will be shown even with no phone paired.

The last screen is good - "Bluetooth connectable in this menu". From there, you have to initiate pairing from your phone (not the car). Your phone will detect the car's Bluetooth system with the name "BMWxxxxx" where xxxxx are the last 5 digits of your VIN. At the same time, a message will pop up on the iDrive screen requesting a password. Just use the same password on your phone and the car - I just used 0000.

As I recall, there's a timer involved, so try to complete the above steps as quickly as possible.

I've found it useful to purposely miss a call while my phone is connected via Bluetooth. Then, whenever your phone is paired to the car, the car will display a phone icon next to the signal bars. The phone icon signifies a missed call, but it's very useful for determining whether your phone is connected or whether it's just the car's built-in telematics.

Thx a bunch for the workarounds on my problem cinergi. I will give your suggestion a go tonight and see if that will resolve my problem.

Just curious with pairing, theoretically it could be perform on either front as not all devices detect one another?

+1. The bluetooth connectivity is not very intuitive at all in the older versions of iDrive. Why isn't it under the communications menu for crying out loud? Anyway, as stated above, try finding the car with your phone. I had to do the same thing with my wife's phone the other day and it worked fine.

Sounds like you got your solution and should be paired when you get a chance. Not to be a wiseguy, but this process is spelled out in the manual. It is available online as well (manual). I keep the pdf on my computer,as the manual generally resides in the glovebox. Hope you get it paired and working. I really like the BT on my BMW as it loads the phonebook from the phone each time it pairs/syncs. Many systems do not work as well imo.

Not at all x3ronnie.. As a matter of fact, that was my first stop both the manual and the online version and both proved to be not as helpful in my situation especially when some of the screens and sub-menus doesn't show up on my iDrive. Particularly on page 194, steps 8, 9 and beyond are nowhere to be found which is why I'm turning to the forum for help. I know this doesn't make any sense and I'm trying to following picture by picture instructions but just not what it seems to be. I'll give the pairing from my BB a shot but I believe it was initially attempted without any luck to begin with but another shot won't hurt. Thx again.

I have an '07 530Xi with Nav. My TCU was recently replaced under warranty because the assist did not work. The dealer had to first update my iDrive,so your menus may not look the same.Just went through the menus. This is the procedure on my car.
Settings (press iDrive controller)
Bluetooth (scroll down)
Phone (select this)
Pair New Phone OR Help this option displays a web address and veh ID# Phone Prep#
You should also see previously paired phones.
I should note that the look and operation of the iDrive are significantly improved after the update. The overall look is more current as I drove an '09 535Xi (no nav) loaner for a week while mine was in for repairs.
If you are still unable to pair your phone,a trip to the dealer may be in order. At the very least, someone can try to help you pair your phone,or take the vehicle in for diagnosis.

Right after the Phone, the rest of the sub-menus are new and corresponds to the manual. Even the original manual originates the same steps but not on the system itself. My gut feeling is it needs an upgrade but the warranty just ran out. What's a typical cost for a service like this? I'll prob give the service center a call to get some more info. Thx again for your help.

If the warranty just ran out, you may be able to get the dealer to update your iDrive as a "goodwill repair". Sometimes when you are just beyond the warranty, they will extend this courtesy. Give them a call and explain the situation. The reprogram is not cheap and cannot be done elsewhere. Good luck.

That's a great suggestion x3ronnie. Thx a bunch for your thoughtful comments. I will give that a shot as well as try pairing from the phone end of things.

Also is there a way to check which version of the software is installed or what version # did your upgrade push you to?

I'm not sure how to tell what version of iDrive you have. Hoping someone else will chime in.

I just want to thank all that have contributed their comments to my question. I was able to pair up my BB with the iDrive system which was very much straight forward.
