Easy. You put the feckin cruise on 72 and you don't touch it for 220 miles.
![]() The a day later you turn 180 degrees and do it again. |

My BMWs get about 50-55 MPG
![]() But seriously lets just say that the 535 got 30 MPG and the 550 got 20 MPG on average.... at 3 dollars per gallon, you are looking at a difference in fuel for the year of $500 per every 10,000 miles.... compared to what your payments differences will be is $40 extra a month in gas that big of a deal? My wife's car is the 335xi, so the nature of man laws compels me to buy the 550xi... I'll pay for the extra gas and payment difference to have that engine and HP

Drove an F10 550i 90 miles from the driveway to the dealer in a general rural area. Passed 2 cars 'gently' and starts from 2 red lights. Computer said 26.9 mpg. You drive this engine easy, the mpg is there. Drive hard, she'll drop into the teens. The 550xi will use about 4-5% more gas.

I agree on gas mileage, if you worry about this you cant afford the car. But I have 2 points. Gas mileage is important thought on consumption and guilt for me. The other is gas in the next 1-2yrs has to go up and way up. I expect $4 will be back quickly if the economies show any mend. It was painful paying that price on my 650i and I can afford. Beware $5/gallon will hit us quickly if there is sharp upturn.

Hum, maybe I drove too gently? Remember reading somewhere on this forum that getting to desired speed quickly actually save gas. I often found the car lack of power and acceleration, but when peeking at the tachometer, it was like 1,500 RPM?!

Why knock the guy for asking about gas mileage (a potential savings of a few thousand dollars over the next 4-5 years), when most buyers of these vehicles will let $500 on the initial sales price become a deal breaker?
To the OP, just look at the EPA figures for both cars - that will tell you the relative difference in MPG. |

550 is gas hungry no way around it...I have a 2011 rwd sport Been avg like 12-13 MPG. Not a fan of xdrive...find it noisy...I think rwd best way to enjoy 550....535 ok in xdrive but u will have to get on that car to get it moving. Either way gas is gonna run some coin. If u want to save check ur driving style minimize AC use and keep tire pressure on point.
