2000 Z3, slightly wet, now FS cheap

My 2000 Z3 got a bit wet a week or two ago. It looks like the passenger window seal was not functioning 100% and the top was allowing water to pass through. This car is never parked outside, but had to be temporarily as I was doing work in my garage. The result was a set of wet seats (especially the passenger one) and some water on the carpet.

I called my insurance agency to see if this was something they would cover, as I was concerned about the passenger seat. The result was a total loss according to them. I have a decision to make, buy it back or take a check and let them keep it.

If anyone has any interest in buying a 2000 2.5 with 79kmi (5 speed) in 8 out of 10 condition, with a little water damage for 50% of book value let me know. I honestly think a little clean up and a seat position sensor will get this car back to almost restored condition.

Check out my CL ad. http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/1923433740.html

the car is in Highland, NY

You can also email me at alandelucia@yahoo.com.

I have put SO many upgrade in it that I would hate to see it go for scrap. I tried to cancel the claim just to keep the car, but was not allowed. They tell me that if I keep it, I will have to get it insured elsewhere.

BTW, NYS will not salvage the title

I don't understand why a little water makes this a total loss.

Does the car not run?

You're allowed to remove your upgrades and put the stock stuff back on.

Its all done now. After I cleaned it up, there was no evidence of any damage. Honestly it was probably less wet than most Zs get in there life. One night with the top left down would have been 100 times worse.

The cost of that inner door panel and 2 seat cusions added up to 6k according to the insurance. They have some thing with mold. Once something is wet, they demand that it gets replaced.

Anyway, bought it back, spent some time cleaning it and resold it locally for really cheap. The new owners got a crazy deal and it will never show anything on the title. It doesnt even show up in Carfax.

Now I have a sweet 2003 Z4 3.0i with the performance package. Its a totally different car than the Z3. I am VERY impressed.

so you're liking the 4 better than the 3? I might be the opposite, I like the 3 better, especially cosmetically

... wait until you've owned a Z3 for a few years. They're great looking, but the build and design quality of the Z4 is light years beyond the Z3.
