hello world, I need a little help ......

I have an oldie 1997 740il, newest situation is the steering wheel locked/stuck temporary after I turned on the ignition. The car is on but I cann't turn the steering wheel left or right. I turned on & off again and the steering wheel and finally released. What is going on here? Is it ignition bad or going bad, or steering fluid or what?
Appreciate any suggestion on this situatuion. Thank very much and your time.
