Is the paddle shifter option just that?

Am putting together an ED order for a 535xi with M sport package, along with other options. I am wondering about the paddle shifter option. Question: if you do NOT order the paddle shifter option, would the car still have the 8 speed automatic sport shifting engine? In other words, for the $500 paddle shifter option, are the paddle shifters the only upgrade you're getting, or is there an engine upgrade as well.

Thanks.

In the UK
You have the option of standard auto or sports auto.
If you pick the sports auto you are forced to select the sports steering wheel which has the paddle shifts.
In the UK at least you can't have the sports auto box without the sports steering wheel.

I don't think either option makes any changes to the engine, just the gearbox, and even then I suspect the two boxes are the same just with different software! But I don't know that its just a guess !

Hope that helps!
cheers
Paul

The sport transmission not only has the paddle shifters, it also has faster shifts.

Also if you do not order DHP you will get the Normal, Sport, Sport+ settings, but no Comfort setting.
