Question The Notorious "SES" light & odd noises...

Hello, I've had my 2001 740i Sport for over a year now and that damn Service Engine Soon light will pop on & off from time to time. I don't know what it is. It would turn off when I start the vehicle for 5 -200 miles and turn back on. Anyone else experience this?

I also hear a soft beeping noise(*beep beep beep) for a second when I drive & it sounds like it's coming from the Navigation unit but it only started doing it after the yellow & red bar turned on saying it was "Inspection" time. I do the oilchanges & maintain my vehicle but haven't reset that bar stating it was serviced because I hate going to the dealer.

Any insight would be very much appreciated. Thanks

You need to go to your BMW Mechanic. My light came on after driving it 1500 miles after we bought it. It can be many thing including your gas cap might not be tight enough. My problem was that the ventilation system in the intake manifold went bad. Cost $2,100 with labor and many other thing replaced. But I did have the head gaskets removed so I could strip the paint and repaint them. So you price would probably be around $1,500-1,800. Even with the problem fixed the SES light does come on from time to time and just like your it goes on and off. I am taking it in Friday for my mechanic to rescan it with his computer. I am going to be pissed if is something else.

I avoid taking my car to the dealer at all costs so I think I'll just buy a OBD connector from Bavauto and figure this out. I don't trust most mechanics because a lot will try skim you or lie.

I though an OBD would work but it didn't. it was telling me it was O2 sensors. Don't go to BMW they will just take your money.
