HELP New BMW Owner! DSC 540i
Hey gang,
I am a new BMW owner of a 2001 540i. I love the E39 series and the 540, it was my dream car besides the M5. I am having some trouble driving this vehicle....It has been raining out and my vehicle feels like I am driving a corvette as the ass end is ALWAYS losing its footing. My tires have nice tread, *goodyear assurance* and I can press and light the DSC button. The dash light does light for DSC however, I am feeling the sluggish affect but my car still slides out and makes me feel quite unsafe in cornering. I am noticing that the DSC button will flash when its working, mine seems to say solid constantly. Is it working? Is there just too much power and too light in the rear end? Is this a common issue in the 540? Please help me..... Derek |

When you press the button and the DSC indicator lights continuously, you've disabled the system. When driving with the system enabled (no indicator light) and the indicator flashes, that means it's been activated.

Thank YOU so much!
I wanted to thank you so much for your assistance! I was very concerned something was wrong and I drive 40 mins to work everyday. I have been disabling this system and not even realizing it!

If you don't have an owners manual...you can download one in PDF format directly to your computer. Just scroll down to the bottom of the left column and download the one that is closest to your model year: www.e38.org/e39
DSC and how it operates is discussed in the owners manual...here it is...although you've figured out already what you were doing wrong:

You bet. Could really suck if you plan on driving it in the winter months with the system unknowingly disabled!
